Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Ever since we fell in love with Meg I have been addicted to the idea of finding a second one to add to the family.  My husband has been resistant but we just had company with two small little dogs that were too old to play with her but now he sees that she would benefit from a sister in the house. She was begging those little guys to play, brought her favorite toys to them but they just were not having it.   I turn green with envy every time I see someone on here get a new one and now I get to do the same.  Have been out on DRC and none are available in our area (would love the brother sister duo but hubby is not even close to being ready to add two).  Anyway, for sure looking for a rescue dog and would love any leads that anyone has.  Southern Illinois is where we are and we are willing to go a couple hours or so in any direction.  If you have any ideas for us please let me know, so ready to do it...

UPDATE

We just received word that Gabby has shown signs of doing better with a single dog family and that family has been selected.  We are happy for Gabby that she has a new home and wish her and her new family the absolute best.  We are leaving our application active.  I am going to travel to Georgia next week and take care of my grandson while my daughter does a business trip.  Meg goes with me and will have several days to play with Stevie (my lab grandson) and that will be good for her.  When I get home the search will begin again in earnest.  Keep your fingers crossed and good wishes coming.

Good luck.

Judy - did you put an application in with DRC? I know there are doodles that not posted yet on PetFinder.

I just filled out an application on DRC, fingers crossed

Shadow and Sadie need a home !!!

I know Lynette and it is killing me,  I had my husband watch their video yesterday but he just came around for a second one and he just can't get far enough to have three dogs that size in the house yet.

What about Gabby.  It is not that far from you.  A day's round trip. Columbus, Ohio area

Gabby is who we filled the application out on, once we saw her we decided to enlarge the circle we were willing to travel to, she is about 6 hours from us..  Really age wise and size she is a great match for Meg, they mention slight shedding but since Meg is a gold medal shedder I can['t imagine that being a problem around here.  I am practically holding my breath and have no idea how long it takes for an application to be processed, all I know is the car is gassed up and I am ready to roll out of here and head to Columbus.  I have been wanting a second doodle for a long time.

Good luck to you!

I cant think of a better person to adopt Gabby, or any doodle for that matter.   Best wishes to  you.

May Meg find her perfect friend.

Ever think of a male doodle?  I love the males the most. Sorry girls, but just my opinion.

Males also get along with the other female better,  where females in the household together (  not always) tend to be aloof to each other or just not get along.  Females can be territorial with each other inside the home.  Rule of thumb in order:

  • Male and Female
  • Male and Male
  • Female and female

Thanks Joanne, we are sitting on pins and needles...not sure why I think Gabby is the one, but I do.  We are also waiting to hear on two others, one is a found dog and we really hope she finds her rightful family but we would be her family if that doesn't work.  The other is waiting to see if the agreement goes through on it's third 'forever' family.  We are Meg's third family (not counting her foster mom) and it is heartbreaking to see these dogs moved around so much, must be so confusing for them.  Anyway, right now we are obsessing over Gabby and want to make her happy as well as hoping the Lady that had to ask for help will know this is her final home and that she will be well loved.

We have had male dogs in the past and not sure why we have not looked that way this time but I am sure if the right one popped up we would be open.

The found dog is off the table and back with her rightful family, I am happy for them.  I am still obsessing over Gabby...I know in my heart she is the one and just hoping that DRC feels the same way about us for her.

Fingers crossed for Gabby - he looks like a great addition!
