Auggie is not feeling well

Auggie did not want to eat on Saturday morning and seemed a bit off the whole day. I took the boys out for a doodle romp in the afternoon and Auggie seemed to perk up and played with the other dogs just fine. I boiled some rice and chicken for him in the evening and he did eat some of it. Last night we heard him scratching constantly and at about 1pm my DH had to take him out because of loose bowels. I can smell bad gas coming out of Auggie on occasions this morning, he refused his breakfast again and is just moping around (although he did try to attack and chase Monty the first thing in the morning). But he is definitely not feeling well and I can't tell what's wrong. He is still scratching on occasions; I looked through his fur for flees, but did not see anything. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not, but it almost looks like his eyes are a bit swollen (just like mine since I did not get much sleep last night). I can't tell for sure. My DH said Auggie drank some water in the morning.

I'm going to the store to see if I can find some anti itch shampoo and give him a bath. Would you suggest a baby Benadryl or something? If so, how much? Any other ideas of what I can do before taking him to the vet tomorrow morning?

Poor baby...sorry for all he and you have been going through...so glad he is beginning to feel like his old self...thinking of you Jarka!

Monday morning update: we slept through the whole night and Auggie seems completely normal this morning. His eye is not swollen anymore and he is wrestling with Monty as I type this. His morning stool was still very loose, though.

I'm glad he's feeling better. I think it must have been a bug bite or sting, or some other kind of acute allergic reaction, for the antihistamine to have resolved it so quickly.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking as well. I just can't pinpoint when that happened. It all started with him not eating on Saturday, the actual scratching and swelling started Sunday. Now we still have to work on the poop. :-)

Perhaps you should consider carrying an antihistamine with you on outings in case he starts having another reaction in the future. Sometimes allergic reactions can worsen with repeated exposures.

Thank goodness, but sorry about the poo. Is the odor still a knock out punch?
This new Pro Pectalin chewable tablets, has been a great medication for Spud so far especially since the good stuff was not working at all. I think it's new (?)
I've never heard of it, but we had not ever had a crisis since puppyhood that lasted more than a brief day or so. So maybe it's been around. If I get time, I'm going to see if this is just a Kaopectate (sp) like med It's inexpensive and basically drug free, over the counter med.
I'll certainly ask for it again.
If it can help the severity of Canine Gastroenteritis, certainly gold for us Time for rice-ground meat combo, pumpkin, yogurt?
