Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
The " The Ohio Dog Virus" aka DogCV or Dog Circovirus
It appears to be spreading now into Michigan.
I've been asked to post this newest information here on DK. I agreed because I fear the rumors and misinformation from news media and social media. Let's know the facts.
Before I do, Please read this thoroughly and dont jump to conclusions. Some of you bought T-shirts last week that said, Stay Calm, Love a Labradoodle/Goldendoodle, from the DRC Fundraising Group. Do just that. Stay calm. If you hear information, search out verification from veterinary sources only.
Note: The State of Ohio Department of Agriculture has not released any information since September 6, 2013.
There is updated information on Veterinarian News Sources. The news out of Michigan, well I just want to go to a real source, not broadcast news. I cant figure out what is going on in Congress let alone dogs.
A good amount of news in coming out of the State of Michigan concerning the most recent cases of sick dogs and two deaths. Here is the link to the most recent stories located in Michigan. But wait.
BEFORE you listen to these news stories and local Michigan video, please read my post then go back to the above link. This is the latest on questions and answers vets have put together for you and me.
We also need to slow down and pay attention to what is actually going on with our dog. No denials but don't panic either. This wont help the situation.
Keep in mind, thousands die from the human flu each year. We have all had the flu, right, but we are all still here. So, just because your dog gets this virus, does not mean instant death. Some dogs have died, yes. Not all .
My dog was very ill just last week. DogCV? Certainly this was a really strange situation. And he was really really sick. He has not been to a dog park in 18 months, had not even taken a walk around the block in over a month. He was out, only in the car. I was in denial and thought I could handle a few days of diarrhea. Nothing I did helped. So, dont be like me and be in denial, just take your dog to the vet.
My vet said, bacterial because of a stool sample. He called it," DOG FLU" I then asked, "Gastroenteritis?" He said, 'exactly'. That is all I know. I have no idea if this is what he had, but I too, wonder. A Lot!
Not all dogs die. It is not a death sentence. It appears most recover.
SO HERE IS WHAT WE ARE TO BE READING
( versus comments on Facebook. )
A: As of October 3, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been investigating illnesses similar to those observed in Ohio. The investigation will take time, and at this time they are not confirming that circovirus is involved.

Joanne, I sent you a PM regarding Daisy's week.
Oh this is so scary! thanks for the info Joanne! Hope everyone is ok and doesn't catch anything like this
Thank you for posting this, Joanne. In addition to providing valuable information, you've also provided rational common sense instead of hysterical rumors.
I have honestly never seen worse, more inaccurate or more ignorant information on health issues anywhere on the internet than I've seen in Facebook discussions. Honestly, the words "lowest common denominator" come to my mind when I read some of the information people post there. The dumbest stuff ever. I also get some pretty good laughs from some of it, but this isn't funny.
People, do not take advice from Facebook! Especially about health issues!
Thanks Karen. I tried to be thorough. I have not read much else.
I did receive, just this morning, another article that said it was contagious from humans to dogs and vice versa. WTD?
I have that article too, but did not post here because I can not substantiate the source, even though a Vet was quoted in the article.
Here it is.. what do you think?

I have not had a chance to look up the Dr. Possibly she has other information on her page but I think this is....... a hot bag of dog poo.

Flu shot. I waited for 87 minutes last Friday for my vaccine. I never got it. The pharmacy said they had new computers.. or something.
The flu shot this year is confusing though, we are offered two different kinds of 3-way and a 4-way. Is that correct? I've heard it other ways too. I checked the CDC sight and read some facts. I forget what... :)
Either way, I'll be in line again this week

Here you go, F.
Funny, but the woman waiting with me knew EVERYTHING. She knew, because her son ( not her) was a vascular surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. That qualifies her. She is a retired 1st grade teacher . I know she was a mean one at that.
I had my phone opened up to the CDC page as I waited with her and she still insisted there were 4 different versions. Whatever. Geesh.
Another reason I left
