Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I currently own a 4 yr old standard goldendoodle and am ready to add another doodle to our family.  I'm considering a mini or medium doodle.  My original breeder states in her website that she doesn't breed minis because she has found them to be more prone to behavioral and temperament problems.  I haven't seen any distinction between the behavior of minis vs. standards on this forum, does anyone have any input or advice?

My yorkie was definitely the alpha dog!  She wouldn't put up with any of our doodles energetic play....and boy did our doodle try to play!  Our gd is extremely energetic (probably like Zoe) and I'm not sure that I could handle two big, energetic dogs. I really like the idea of adding another young dog to our household, I'm sure that Sandy will enjoy playing with a new brother or sister.

The breeder states that her mini's should be 25-30 lbs so I think that they will be about the same size as your mini (I hope!....I was told that Sandy would be around 45 lbs...no luck...she's around 75 lbs).

I have two Standard Goldendoodles. One is almost 80lbs. and the other is about 70lbs. I still get nervous sometimes when they play, due to Oliver (80 lbs) playing a little rough. He is one and Ellie is two. Ellie is not as playful as he is, so they balance each other out. They are both still young, so that puppy play appears daily!! I don't know much about mini doodles, but did have two small breed dogs years ago, the high pitched yappy bark was too much for me. I love Big Dogs! Any dog you add to the mix will have at least a six month adjustment period.

HAHA if your yorkie could put Sandy in her place then I'm pretty sure a mini will be ok playing with her too.  Zoe is the Alpha and bosses Ben around but he's just too big and goofy!  My in-laws have yorkies and Zoe looks HUGE next to them...I think she is the perfect size!  And no where near as yappy as them.  Good luck with whatever size you decide...I'm sure all will turn out perfectly :)

I have a medium multigen, 17inches and 32lbs.  I also have a standard size.  I love having both!  The Medium does bark more at nothing, but I love her to death, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with her size I think.  Some dogs bark at nothing, and some dogs bark appropriately....  It is wonderful to have a pup I can hold in my lap and love, unfortunately the standard size wants to do the same, and does accomplish this feat at times :)  I would have both these sizes again at the same time in a heartbeat!

This is totally anecdotal but three of my friends all purchased mulitgen labradoodles from the same breeder. Two are mini >25lbs. The third is a standard. The minis are nuts. They are the most hyper crazy little things. Both of my friends say they never settle down and are balls of energy all day long. They both love their dogs but I get tired just listening to their pups crazy antics. Both puppies are a little over a year old. The standard size doodle (also around a year) is just like mine, very laid back and easygoing.

Keep in mind this is one experience with one breeder.

And perhaps the same or related parents?
