Poor Harpo.  He has poison oak again.  HE is my dog who loves to talk to me, but now he is complaining.  Last night he was lying in front of my husband's chair and he started barking like he was injured, but he was just lying on the carpet.  It sounds like he is crying, but just kind of a yappy cry.  This morning he did the same thing sitting on the back of the couch.  Then he was rubbing his eyes on the carpet.  Poor guy - I know he is itching and cannot scratch the itch.  I gave him another rub down with warm washcloths and Technu after our walk this morning, but can just tell that he is miserable.  His ears and belly are looking better, but I cannot put the Technu on his eyes because it is a neutralizer.  We will get through it (again).

Poor guy - I would be complaining too!  Hope he feels better soon!

Have you tried some regular Claritin or Zyrtec? Also keeping him cool will help as well.

I am sorry he is so miserable and wish there was a preventive for him to take or use.

I hope you find a way to get him comfortable...poor baby!
Awwww....poor guy. Maybe some Benedryl to ease his discomfort?

Poor Harpo!  Could you have him lay next to you and hold a cool wet cloth over his closed eyes? It might feel good to him.  Give him a Benedryl too.  I think in this case that a little bit of drowsiness would be good.  Hope he feels better soon!

Poor guy, that's no fun. Hope for a speedy recovery.

No wonder he's complaining, poor Harpo. Continued exposure will result in more severe outbreaks. You need to find a better way to protect him. You mentioned you were going to keep him on leash in areas where there is poison oak, so how does he keep getting exposed.

Yes, I know.  I do keep him on leash in areas where there is poison oak, but my husband was over at the old race track doing trail maintenance and let him off leash while he was working on the trail.  Of course there is poison oak over there and that it where he picked it up this time.  We were at the beach last weekend and he was off leash and loved running around with all the other dogs, but there is no poison oak on the beach.  We are headed out to Ft. Ord again today and he will be ON LEASH.  I do know how he is being exposed and I think I will just tell my husband ALWAYS on leash.  Poor Harpo, and poor me for having to deal with this again.  This is a pretty severe outbreak, but it is almost over.

Poor boy.  How long does the reaction last?

About a week.

Oh my gosh, Lynda. I have horrible cases of poison oak and can just imagine how badly Harpo is suffering. I hope you are able to help him somehow. He may need to get steroid shots from the vet. I had them and then steroid pills.
