I found a blood filled tick on Jilly's belly this morning. It had left what looked like a red ring like mark on her skin. I called the vet's office, described the tick and the mark and they advised to wipe it with rubbing alcohol and keep a watch on it. They said the redness was most likely irritation from the bite and will fade away, but call back if it still looks irritated in the morning. They said they are getting a ton of calls regarding tick bites right now. Here's what we have:
The tick:
Jilly's mark
I'm pretty sure she got it on our walk last night. She always rolls over for a belly rub and I would have noticed it some time yesterday before the walk.
So I started checking her all over and wouldn't you know she had another on the top of her head, this tick was also filled with blood, but left no mark. Jack checked out clean.
Hopefully the redness will fade away by tomorrow. She seems fine otherwise.
I should mention that they are both on Frontline and have the Lyme's vaccination.
Just a head's up to check your doodles!

I, too, am interested in what type of tick collar you found effective. We used to use Frontline on our previous dog. It doesn't repel ticks, but supposedly kills them within 24 hours. We had to stop taking her to Cape Cod altogether because she would be covered with them in the time it took her to pee. Hiking was another thing we couldn't do with her. We just couldn't stand those things crawling on her.
We tried Advantix with her but she couldn't tolerate it (very itchy - for a month - on the place between her shoulders that she couldn't possibly reach - horrible).
Anyway, we do use Advantix II on Josie, had her in deer tick "habitats" they actually call them at the Cape, all summer and not a single tick. Yay! On the other hand, I HATE putting that poison into her system.
So, again, would love to know about this particular, effective collar!!
Just got through reading reviews of the collar online and I am afraid to use it now. My previous dog had a terrible reaction to a different collar years ago so I am a bit reluctant. Glad it is working for your dog though!! Ticks are a real pain!
