I buy poop bags and keep them in the car and in my pocket for walks. I am certain there are many other people that do the same.
HOWEVER...not one stop on the way to get Polly or all the way back did we see evidence of anyone actively using them. In fact the evidence we found spoke volumes about how many people really don't care about cleaning up after their pet.
Have I ever mentioned that Meg doesn't even like her own mess in her own yard, this was a real challenge for her.

Crush poops in the same spot on the trail every time. About 1/4 mile into the trail she stops dead in her tracks and poops. She does it even if she just pooped at home. I always clean it up and other dog owners say "thank you for cleaning up after your pet." There is plenty of poop all along the trail that others haven't picked up. What is even worse is when it looks like the poop of a very sick dog. My dog knows the "leave it" command, but I still don't want her face around that stuff.
Just yesterday we thrrw Daisy's ball in the field, she ran over to where it landed and was not picking it up....she was pawing at it as if to move closer to her...paw paw paw, tried to grab again, paw paw paw. Turns out it landed right next to a pile of poo, not hers of course, and she didn't want to go near it or put her face near it. Hilarious....not only is her Mom obsessed and is grossed out about people not picking up, so is she thank Dog.
Good thing we always carry wipes and bags.
Rant on - this is a peeve of mine! We had an urban apartment for years and even with poles & bags posted around the complex, on the street corner, poo all over. Walk down the park trails and it was horrid - wonder where those diseases come from? Rest areas on road trips - eeeek, better to pull over on a side road.
We use recycled plastic grocery bags on our walks. Always have a pocketful, too!
Look at the way most public HUMAN rest rooms look on a public thoroughfare-no wonder they don't clean up after their dogs when they leave their own dirty towels on the floor and much worse.
There are some people in my neighborhood who NEVER pick up... so annoying. There is a family with a basset hound and 3 teenagers - none of the kids pick up the dogs' poop :/
Rant away ! Here is how I solved one guys refusal to pick up after his dog. Well at least in my neighborhood.
This man and his golden retriever walked down my street everyday to get stuff at a corner store. Everyday this dog would cleanse his colon on someone's lawn, and this guy would NEVER pick it up ! One day I was outside and the dog did his business a few houses down, and they just kept on walking. By the time he reached my house I had a bag and said " I see you forgot you poop bag today, here you go." He was not please, but went back and bagged his dogs business. I was nice and did offer to put it in my garbage on the way back by. However that wasn't the end of it. He continued to walk with the dog everyday and the dog continued to do what he does without this guy cleaning it up. One day I followed behind him to see where he lived, and to my surprise he lived just around the corner from me.
The next day (that I actually saw him) when he went by, his dog did his business in front of my next door neighbors house, and he continued on as usual. I grabbed a plastic grocery store bag... grabbed the poop, jumped in my car and drove to this guys house. Deposited the poop on his front steps !
He NEVER came down my street again !
Not one of my greatest moments... rather an impulse move, but in this case it worked.
Ya can't fix stupid, but you CAN return his poop !
That's a bit funny, I always threaten to do that to people that that throw their empty beer bottles/cans in my yard as they head into town...my husband picks up tons of trash every year around here.
I'm a rebel at heart ♥ LOL
What drives me nuts is that by me people bag the poop and leave it on the sides of the trails. WTD??? If you are going to bother to bag it why just leave it there? There are dozens of bags in the state park where I walk. There is even a trash pail at the trail-head. There will be bags 10 steps from the pail. People are gross.
