Any one else's doodle sleep all day long? Sawyer is 5 months old and all he does is sleep. I work from home and honestly, I'm grateful he is so quiet so I can work. I am wondering if I inadvertently made him that way from always working at home? Or is it normal for them to sleep so much? He gets active between 6:30-8:30pm then he's ready for bed. Sleeps all night. I just want to make sure he is ok! I do take him everywhere with me. He rides in the car all the time to pick up kids. Even then, he usually, lying down or asleep unless one of my sons is purposely engaging him. Odd?

Mine is 7 months old now....but similar....I think it is totally fine.  I think the thing with the doodles is they just want to be WITH YOU!.  I have noticed if I am working from home all day he will sleep all day but at any given moment if I take him out, he is also thrilled to be out and about.  I have 3 kids so they do love to play with him alot but after our morning outing (sometimes only 25 minutes or so playing with other dogs) he is content and sleepy rest of the day- I say go with it!  Ha

My puppy is almost 11 months old... I also work from home.  She is pretty active right in the morning - has her breakfast while I get ready and do random things around the house.   Before I start work we normally have a 15-20 minute play session and then she naps....pretty much all day right next to my chair.  She will occasionally get up and chase a kitten but other than that she's napping.   She gets active again about 5pm - has dinner at 6 and another play session and a walk.  By about 8pm - she's napping again until bedtime!  I take her outside multiple times a day and do a quick walk in the middle of the day - but she's not normally into walking during the day.  Long story short - I think its probably very normal :)

Hi Kris!  Our LIbby does the same thing and like you I was worried too!   She is very mellow and a big time sleeper.  She gets regular check ups from the vet with blood work , etc and the doctor said she is in perfect health.  She walks two miles every day, plays fetch outside with us, plays soccer with her favorite ball outside two or three times, but she loves her favorite rocking chair to sit in and sleep!  Is this the norm?  I do not know, but she is healthly and happy!

My almost 5 month old sleeps a lot too . When my husband comes home we do lots for a couple of hours and we also have her on the sofa for more one on one time then the create for the night. I hear her play some in there but she seems to know that is where she is till the morning .

He could be fine. Mine slept  A LOT. I too thought he was the easiest puppy I have ever had. Mine had low thyroid. T4 can be normal and there can still be problems. If your vet only runs T4 and you want another opinion look up Jean Dodds DMV. She is an expert on thyroid problems.

My 12 week old puppy sleeps a lot too.  I was surprised.  Only a few nights of taking him out to potty now he has his crazy periods, first thing in the morning from about 7-9 then sleeps most of the day.  I take him out and try to run off some energy around 2pm, then he goes to sleep for the night around 8:30.

Molly is 4 months and sleeps a lot too. Takes several 2 hr naps a day plus puts herself to bed for night around 8:00.

Jace was and still is like this, he loves to sleep. LOVES IT. he was like this from day one, Maggie on the other hand isn't she is like any other puppy and wears her self out before she sleeps for about an hour or 2, but not my Jace he can sleep all day long, go on a run in the evening, and sleep for the rest of the night, it's actually awesome when they're that easy.

I think that is what kind of worried me. He gets a walk every day and he plays every day. But every once in awhile a walk might not happen and even then he still sleeps all night and the next day. He s pretty good as well at entertaining himself, he'll take a stuffy toy outside and throw and catch to himself. Kinda funny to watch. But he doesn't seem to require much exercise. I think like Jodi said, he's just happy to be with us...

Well, I work from home too and I don't think it influences whether or not they sleep more or less.  My 5 month old definitely gets bored/agitated around 10:30 and 3:30 (which is in addition to the playtime i give her around noon, and after a morning walk), so I usually spend another 20 minutes around those times to expend some energy.  Then she sleeps like a log the rest of the time.  My vet said puppies sleep hard and play hard, and that usually dogs are very active at dawn and dusk, and sleep most of the day.  I think sleeping most of the day is perfectly normal - wish my Zoe would let me!  Although I do like the distractions most often.  It's amusing when I'm on a conference call and my co-workers hear her barking int eh background because she wants attention/playtime.

I wouldn't worry!

Puppies sleep...alot. Enzo is now 5 months and she catches a snooze at any given chance.( we should all be so lucky!) She plays hard and then crashes.....the car puts right to sleep, but then she is ready and rarin to go.

Wow! This is a great site. more than 2 years following the last post to this discussion I too have a 4 month old puppy who in my uninformed opinion sleeps a lot. Like so many others up at 6:00am for a "walk" (sort of - still a little too distracted to by a real walk) followed by breakfast and playtime and a sleep. Up for lunch and some docile play and engagement and then we have a drowsy puppy. Pretty vigorous from 5:00 to 8:00 pm then it's hard to keep her awake. Thanks for the reassurance from all you other doodle owners out there.
