Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Finnley has almost reached the year and a half milestone. She had her first haircut at 6 months, and her second, 6 months later, and then a third (trim up), 1 month after that. All went well, and she always has looked great, and her doodle-ness always remained intact.
Just before her 6 month puppy cut.
Late spring

UNTIL YESTERDAY !!

I took Finnley to her regular groomer Doreen, only to find that Doreen was out sick. Okay, I could deal with that.
I explained to the woman taking Doreen's place that I knew Finnley was a bit matted in spots, from rolling, and laying in the fall leaves. I brush her regularly, but sometimes, mattes happen ! Told her to leave her tail, and face, I just wanted to see her eyes a bit more. Weeelll, I can definitely see her eyes now.... and everything else !!

Obviously this particular grooming will last for awhile, before she becomes my woolly bear doodle again.
No sense flipping out, what's done is done, and she IS kind of rocking the much skinnier Poodle look.
I'm a bit disappointed, but lesson learned. WAIT for DOREEN next time !!!
In the meantime, I am still looking at the glass half full. She is healthy and frisky, and now I am NOT begging her to come in the house, because she is hot and wants to stay outside ! See, it's all good.

Have a great weekend.
YESTERDAY !!!!
Holy Doodle, she looks sad doesn't she ?

And I would have yelled OMG what have you done to my dog...are you sure this is my dog? You are so much calmer than me LOL Sweet Finnley telling you that it was her.

OMD - love your attitude Sheila!  This "do" shows off her beautiful shiny coat!  Thankfully they left her ears and tail long!  It is really amazing how fast their hair does grows  - mine certainly DOES NOT!

AAAACTUALLY Linda, her tail got shaved to the middle as well. Right to below where it starts to curl !  I know her tail had NO matting at all. I always am brushing out her tail, so it doesn't look stringy, and it keeps it fuller looking. When I get a better picture I'll post it. It certainly adds to that poodle look !

Okay, hearing this, I am wondering if this groomer thought she was a poodle who had just gone too long between groomings. Was her breed mentioned at all?

She did know she was a doodle Karen. We had talked about Doreen making a new price list for doodle's. When she came out with Finnley and I probably dropped my jaw, she said, "Finnley had a lot of matting." Which I know she didn't. She gets brushed regularly, and I am anal about finding mattes and clipping them off. I knew there were a couple of spots on her stomach, closer to her girly parts that she doesn't like me to touch. So I said clean that area out with a closer cut, but sheesh that was all underneath !

Today I was looking at her, and she really was sporting a rather regal look. So until it grows out some I think I can deal with it. It definitely looks nice with her embroidered bandana with her name on it, and it shows off the nice pink collar with Daisy's that Julie (Milo and Boomer) made for her earlier this summer too !

Oh Oh ~ darn.  That would probably be my breaking point!  I think I might tell my usual groomer you would like to be notified if she is not going to be able to groom your dog and then reschedule!  That is just me though - I am so particular about how I want them to look. I would love to go to a grooming school and learn how to groom.  I think it might be a little difficult for the groomer sometimes - should I be defending them (oh, probably not)!LOL

Sheila, You must truly have been shocked when you pick up Finnley.  Your attitude is amazing considering.  I see this poodle face in Haley every time I give him a bath.  By the way, Finnley is beautiful full doodle faced or poodle faced.

I can't even imagine Haley looking like any poodle at all Anne ! You need to post a bath time picture :)

Wow Sheila, what a surprise! It's amazing how different they look under all that hair. She is gorgeous, long hsir or short! I love how you see the positive and found the opportunity to check her all over for bumps! You've got the right idea and that's why we love you!

Oh Janie, that was a very nice comment. Thank you ! ♥

Oh I see such sweetness in her face and eyes!  And...I love her ears!

I bet she feels velvety smooth though!! I personally don't like the ears left long, I trim them the same length as the body to give the puppy look!'
