I just called Merial which is the company that produces Frontline plus....they do NOT sell to Costco or Dr Foster and Smith according to her.

She told me it is the policy of the company to only sell to vets...... They told me they are aware that Costco and other companies sell Frontline and it is not illegal because you don't need a prescription for it but they don't sell it to them...I asked where they got it from and she told me she was not allowed to comment and or speculate where they got it from.

Everyone has to make their own choice.....when I am well enough I will return my Frontline to Costco and buy from my VEt.

So thankful for this group more and more because I never would have known ....there's a reasonable chance it can be the real Frontline but even if there was only a 99.9 percent chance it was it wouldn't be good enough for me...

Also, the company said if you go to the Frontline webpage there are coupons you can print off to redeem at the vets!

The manufacturers run lot specials to vets (buy so many lots and get free lots), Mobile vet clinics that deal in high volume will then sell to the on line sellers. It is hard for the manufacturers fo control. The on line stores with repackage and remove the lot numbers. That makes it very difficult if the drug is recalled.

When my groomer called a few years ago she was told that Costco had authentic Frontline.  What a mess.  .  Early last spring (and for the first time in 20 years), we had a flea problem at our house, yet now we don't.  My guess is we didn't have 'real' Frontline during that time, and now we do????  I guess I will use up our supply over the winter and buy from out vet next time.

so where is Costco getting this stuff? And how can they sell something they are not legally supposed to sell? I'm confused... We've been buying it at Costco for about a year at half the price of the vet. we've had no problem with fleas or ticks. In fact, at the vets suggestion, Shiloh is now getting Frontline every 3 weeks.

last week I went to restock at Costco and they were out of the size I needed so I went to Petco and bought a pack for twice the price- about the same as the vet charges. I've never seen anything different in the packaging from the vet to costco to petco.

Now I'm worried....

As mentioned in a couple of the links I posted in this discussion, some of the stores are actually buying it from vets.

But in the quantities Costco and the other stores sell???? This is all coming from vets? Scary!

I don't know if it'as all coming from vets, but the articles say there were huge quantities being resold.

I talked to my vet about the Frontline not working so well. (I ordered it from 1800 pet meds). He said that they (the vet) have a flea and tick preventative that also prevents heart worm. I think I'm going to get that instead.

It might be Revolution. I wanted to use it, but was told by JD's dermatologist that Revolution doesn't protect as well against any of the things it's supposed to prevent as the separate products do.

Or possibly Trifexis, which is what we have been using. So far, so good.

Oops, my mistake! I was giving her k9 advantix. I emailed 1800 pet meds about the product being ineffective. I'm not so mad that I wasted $50, I'm REALLY mad that my poor dog has been itching from fleas. I will talk to my vet about which product it is. They're pretty good so I trust that they will warn me if it less effective than buying them separately. I hate the greasy mess of the flea and tick medication so if she could take it orally that would be nice.

Do a search here on DK for Trifexis. A few people's dogs had bad reactions to it. :(
