Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Friend of mine is visiting from Hawaii. Loves - loves - loves our doodles. If you wanted a doodle in Hawaii how would you go about getting one? Can they be shipped there? Does anyone know of a breeder there?

There is a breeder of Australian labradoodles there...can't think of the name though. Not sure of goldendoodles though. They CAN be shipped there but there are a number of quarantine restrictions. Probably has to be older than 6 months due to needing a rabies shot. Dunno for sure. I'm sure the Hawaii govt website has info...
I'm sure Doodles can get anywhere!!!!!!! I hope anyway!!
Here are some breeders that breed doodles in Hawaii that I found through Google:

Also, if you get a doodle from Australia you don't have to go through quarantine in Hawaii because Australia has such strict quarantine rules (apparently a blind lady in Hawaii got a doodle from Australia as a service dog & go him from an Australian breeder to avoid needing quarantine him).

Hope this helps :)
One caution I would give to your friend is to try to find a puppy from a similar climate. A dog that is born & bred in a very dry climate, or an area where there is not much vegetation may have terrible problems with inhalant-type allergies if they are imported into a very humid area or one with lots of unaccustomed flora & heavy vegetation.
We believe that the severity of Jackdoodle's allergies (which are hereditary) is partly caused by the fact that he was moved here to the Chgo suburbs from AZ. Although he is from a pet store (puppy mill), even a conscientious breeder would not easily be able to tell if a young dam or sire in a desert climate had inhalant allergies to things like ragweed, grass, etc. If your friend lives in a tropical climate, she should try to get a dog from a similar environment, IMHO.
I agree with Karen...a similar environment would be wise.
One of the first Labradoodle web sites I visited when looking for a puppy was Rainmaker Ranch. They are a network of kennels with the main one formally in Florida, This family has moved to Hawaii and continues to breed there. Their web site is very informative and was a great help in making the decision to adopt a doodle. Hope this helps.
