Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi everyone!
I'm Katie. I'll be a new puppy mom in June 2014. It feels so far away! I'll be taking home a F1 Irishdoodle. I'm 4th on the list. I'm leaning towards a boy, but am not picky if all the boys are taken before my choice.
Does anyone have a preference between males and females?
Also - does anyone else own an Irishdoodle? I'd love to connect!
Thanks :)
Katie

Wow...an Irish doodle...I've been researching them for the last month. I am entertaining getting one from a breeder in Virginia. They look absolutely gorgeous and I love the color. I always prefer girl dogs, but I have a girl now so if I added another dood I will be seriously thinking of a male. I have heard that males are sweeter than females...I do not know if that is true...many female dog owners would probably disagree. Our female english cream golden doodle has a mind of her own and rules the neighborhood dogs.
What made you look at the irish doodles? If I did get one it wouldn't be until springtime...too cold to do puppy potty training in winter.
The main reason I like the girls are the fact they don't water the bushes. Good luck ... and if I decide to get an Irish dood I will get back with you to compare notes.
The breeder I'm on the list for is in Northern Virgina, so it might be the same breeder you're looking into.
I'm in love with red colored doodles and got my heart set on one. I've always loved the coloring of Irish Setters and it got me thinking about whether anyone bred Irish Setters and Poodles and I found one!
I prefer male dogs and most of mine have been males. My son had a female and she was very protective of him, but I think the males are just more easy going. Besides, I think the neutering is easier for a male and I like to have that done when they are puppies before I even get them. Just one way of thinking.
Oh yes, welcome to Doodles Kisses - the best website around for doodle lovers everywhere. I will be interested to see your Irish doodle. I am thinking about a Sheepadoodle for my next doodle.
Welcome and congratulations on selecting what you want. I don't think it really matters what sex you get.
Congratulations - can't wait to see photos. I've always thought the Irish are just gorgeous, welcome.
We have had males and females - each unique - mostly I consider females better multi taskers and males better at 'chill', but there are always exceptions. Females are easier to potty train, males easier to neuter. Males are overall my favorite, but a lifetime with dogs means I've had some exceptional females as well. We now have one of each and that is my preference.
Hi. Welcome to DK. I have always had female dogs in the past. When I went to get my doodle, the breeder told me that I needed to have an open mind about the sex of the pup. I was told that the males are more laid back while the females could be more moody. I went with a male as he was the one chewing on my husband's leg and he was so darn cute. I have no regrets. He is my first male dog every and I love him. He is 15 mos. and does not lift his leg for the most part. He has made several attempts at it but ends up squatting. I didn't want a male because of the marking and I don't think that will be an issue at this point. My dood is a big clown and loves everyone. He will keep me young. Good luck with your pup and please post pictures. I would love to see an Irishdoodle. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice everyone!! I will definitely share pics in June :)
I have a Male and a female. Totally different personalities!!! My female is more protective and definitely my dog, as females usually pick 1-2 family members to bond with. My male is definitely the family dog!! More playful with my boys and NEVER lifts his leg, or tries to mark his territory on walks. I enjoy their different traits and would get another male in a heartbeat!! Never thought I would say that, being partial to females, but males are WONDERFUL. Enjoy your new puppy adventure~
