So I live in Canada, and this is the first time I have had a dog in 10 years. My puppy Max is 5 months old and we normally walk between 4 and 6 miles a day. Up until now I haven't worried too much about the cold because it's not been that cold in my Canadian opinion but right now it's very cold and I am not sure what is too cold for a puppy? I know he is acclimatized to the cold because we have walked every day since I got him in October. I don't put a coat or anything on him, because I feel his own furry coat is enough for him. I did try out some doggy boots but they don't really stay on very well or very long. I am just wondering how cold is too cold for a dog? Will they let you know if they get too cold or do they even know if they get too cold? He doesn't seem to notice or care about the cold at all. Even today with wind chill warnings he seemed perfectly fine. I did not walk him that long because I was worried about how cold it was, but he was sad when we came inside. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sadly I have no idea. But I would worry about those little paws. I think shorter walks wjhile it is this cold is a prudent precaution.
I am worried about his little paws F. Calla, well big paws lol...I am going to try harder to get the boots to stay on, and do the shorter walks but I know both of us will miss our long walks.
And just reading the article Rosemary listed. Calla does not fall in the underweight category.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for the article Rosemary reading it right now!
That was really helpful Rosemary, we don't use a coat, but I was pretty much just following those guidelines of watching my dog for signs of being too cold and gauging our walks on what the temperature is. So I feel better now knowing I am doing the right thing!
