Finished the sixth book by Diana Galbaldon and have to admit that I don't know what I am going to do at 3:00 in the morning now.  I have a habit of only sleeping about 5-6 hours and when I wake up I know I will not be going back to sleep so I get up and read for a couple of hours, then go back to bed and get a couple hours more of sleep.  Diana's books have been my night-time companions all year.

Thanks, Carla, for the suggestion of another author - Deborah Harkness.  When I take the last Galbaldon book back to the library, I will get the books by Harkness.  I love time travel and historical fiction, so these sound perfect to me.  BTW, I read my first Galbaldon book on my iPad, but then started getting them at the library.  When the first one was 100 chapters and I saw it was 700 pages, I just found library books worked better for me.  I still get lost sometimes on my iPad and was spending way too much time looking for my place in the book.  Shorter books work much better for me.

Anybody else Diana Galbaldon fans?  I thought we should have a new discussion because the What are you reading now? discussion was getting pretty long.

That's what she posted.

The Rose Garden is fine. Most are stand alones. The only ones I suggest you read in order are the Winter Sea, then Firebird.

Yes, I've read Deborah Harkness' other books.

I checked at our local library and they do not have Winter Sea or Firebird, but they did have The Rose Garden, so I got that.  I am enjoying it and will have to check a little further for WS and FB.  They are not in the public library in Monterey County.  If you recommend them, I will get them (sooner or later).  Kate Morton?  She is also good.

Okay, I have to admit I have started rereading some of Diana Galbaldon's books.  They are like old friends to me and I love the story line with Claire and Jaime.  I went by the library today and they have most of her books at the little library down the street and can order what they don't have.  I also checked out the books on hand for Deborah Harkness and Kate Morton.  So I have plenty of books to read, but it is rereading most of them.  I love the time traveler stories, but I don't have the books because I always got them from the library or on my iPad.  That makes it a little harder to reread or to pass on a favorite book to a friend.

I love Diana Gabaldon time travel books. I read the first one on my Nook. Now working on the next one in the series. I too decided to get the rest from the library. One of my daughters had read them all so far and is excited about the new one coming out later this year. Also looking forward to the Starzs series they are making.

I am starting to reread them.  Almost done with Outlander and I checked with the library and the others are there (just down the road).  Tell me about the Starzs series.  Is that movies from the Gabaldon books?  Haven't heard about it.  And if you like these types of books, you might also like the books by Deborah Harkness, but her books are more about witches and vampires too.  I liked them and read them also.

Are you enjoying the Starz series?  I definitely am and I guess they are doing the next book later this year.  This could go on forever, and that would not be too long for me.

What a great off-shoot of Book Lovers!  I just found you and am so glad to see other Diana Gabaldon fans.  Been thinking about rereading again, so you've all given me the motivation.

I follow her on FB just to get little tidbits of info on  the TV series.  She just recently posted a link to a newspaper article about it with photos.  I'm hoping it doesn't disappoint.  You know how you have the characters in your head while reading and all, lol.  It's such a gigantic set of books that you really feel like you know them all by the end.  Looking forward also to her newest book this year.

I also very much enjoyed the Deborah Harkness series.  Didn't think I would, but got hooked quickly.  Had listened to the first one on audio disc while I worked on my painting orders and it really made the time fly by.

Hi Mary....I'm a Diana Gabaldon fan also. I also follow her on FB. Every book, it feels like visiting old friends!!!!

Even after many years, I find myself comparing every book I read to this series.  Old comfortable friends, for sure :)

I have been reading quite a few other "travel" books too that I have really enjoyed while waiting for Diana to come out with her next... which leaves us hanging for 3 years!!!!

Here's a link to the article...it was in tv guide.

Here's another link to an Outlander contest that Random House is running currently:

Sounds really good to me, but I don't know what Starz is.  Is it a television station?  A program?  Series?  I am not a television watcher, but could watch this just to see what somebody else's interpretation would be of these books.
