Even if you lose weight and keep it off for SEVEN years, your brain is STILL going to be trying to make you regain it.

This is where I really am an outlier. I would eat sushi 3 times a week if I could afford it, and not california rolls, either. One of my favorite things in the world. It's what I call sensory eating...like eating a painting. very sexy. Of course, it also helps that I love cilantro, spicy foods, and seafood.

I would eat sushi multiple times a week too!  I'm not a huge fan of sashimi but I love sushi and rolls with raw fish and avocado and/or mango inside.

The whole idea of raw fish makes me cringe. I can see the parasites from slides I saw over 40 years ago in my mind. But I also miss the appeal do cold seaweed and rice etc.

Same here...plus I'm not a fan of seaweed.

I must have a killer immune system, lol. Or maybe the chemical substances in all that spicy wasabi and chili oil kill off the parasites. :)

Most of the sushi that I like doesn't involve seaweed. Those are things like California rolls that are wrapped in seaweed.

And the shellfish used in most sushi is cooked, not raw.

It doesn't help that I'm allergic to some shellfish anyway. But not to worry, there are infinitely more foods I like than I don't like.

Sensory eating.... I like that

Might have to steal that term myself. Write a book "How to Sex Up Your Diet" or "Sensual Eating: The sexiest way to slim down, enjoy food, keep healthy." LOL

Sherri,   I went gluten free over a year ago and my "gut" is VASTLY improved.   My mother suffered from Celiac Disease and I suspect that I, too do, although I haven't been tested.    Going gluten free was not fun in the beginning and I did accidentally "cheat" now and then.   It's a learning process to spot gluten…..it even pops up in some jelly/jams!    I am eating healthier and more mindful - not many processed foods are gluten free.    We also recently began "juicing" for our lunch and in the 10 days we've done that I've found I have MUCH more energy and feel more "clear headed".    The juice is comprised of kale, spinach, apples, celery, carrots and whatever else (fruit/veggie) happens to be on hand.     I wasn't sure I'd like that kind of drink, but both DH and I actually look forward to lunch!   I am going to be replacing the juicer with a vitamin come March….that way we'll be getting all the fiber as well.

I've found that throwing the "diet" word away and replacing it with "heathy eating" has had a long lasting and positive influence on my life.

Good luck to you!

Thanks Carol. I'm getting into juicing too to get my vegetables as I don't eat nearly enough. I'm buying a used juice man from a friend to start.

I agree - to go gluten-free, you have to give up most processed foods.  You end up eating a lot more "real" food.  There are even non-edible things that contain gluten.

I gave up grains (not just gluten) for the most part about 18 months ago.  I still have a bunch once in a while, and I always pay the price when I do.  I feel better not having them, so I try not to have them.  Before that, I had a ton of pasta and bread.  It was really tough for about the first 2 weeks, but then the cravings for that stuff went away.  If you had a lot of grains/gluten, that's probably where you got a lot of your carbs.  You still need carbs for some energy, even if you're gluten/grain-free, so you may just need to figure out another way to get your carbs - vegetables, fruit, etc.
