Emma has been sleeping in a crate since day one and does really well. Last night, and a few other times, she woke up about 2 am panting and it seemed like she was just uncomforable and couldn't find a place for herself. I lifted the cover on the crate to give her more air, thinking that maybe she was hot, but that didn't seem to help. Eventually she did settle down and went back to sleep. Has anyone else had this situation with their dog? I'm hoping tonight will be better . . mostly because she kept me up worrying most of the night!
How old is Emma? My Ginger did this when she was young, but has not in awhile. I even had the vet check her for a heart murmur or something else and he found nothing. She seems to have out grown it. But it is scary when it happens.
Emma is just about 7 months old (on January 2nd). I probably should have taken her out to go potty (now I feel guilty), but she did finally settle down. If she does it again, I will just take her out, presuming that she does have to go potty.
If Emma did not have to go outside it may have been that she was hot. It seems that after taking the cover off the crate she settled down. I know that my dood runs hot and often looks to lie down on the bathroom tile floor or our hardwood floors. Because my husband is disabled the house is too warm. In order to accomodate all household members' temperature, I now routinely leave the bathroom window ajar and that seems to have eliminated the nocturnal panting. Good luck and I hope it isn't a more serious physical ailment then just being too hot!

When our puppy pants that way it is HIS sign that he needs to go out...SOON....when he was younger he went though that a little bit in his crate, we have learned that he does not like to sleep on a pad or a blanket, it makes him restless...Good luck, I hope you both have a good nights sleep.
