Well this is not starting out to be the happy new year it is supposed to be. For starters I've spent the last three weeks battling the cats health and now I had to take Josie in because of something she ate during her destructive behavior (see picture in puppy madness, "When does this stop" discussion. Since Friday she has been vomiting, Friday night we induced (she was licking the air and having trouble swallowing) and she puked up about 2 cups of grass with a little food (she stopped the one behavior and seemed better). Took her Saturday with me to the cats checkup and vet said if she's eating not to worry. Well Saturday she was eating and she picked at her food Sunday, I didn't pay close attention Sunday night because we got home late and I was tired (sometimes Sassy sneaks in and finishes it off). Monday she out right refused the morning meal which didn't concern me too much because she's not a fan of the dry kibble. Monday night the girls got the broth from our pot roast with meat chunks and nothing she looked at it and walked away. Okay Josie is an extreme food hound so I knew something was up. We tried giving her just the meat and NO! She acted like a pregnant woman with morning sickness, she didn't even want to be in the same room as the food!!!!!!! Every time I opened the fridge she'd leave the house! Okay so now I'm trying anything, her favorite dog treats, people food, even her favorite, popcorn, and once again nothing, she just looked at me like a deer in headlights and went to the backyard and hid under the swing????
Took her in first thing this morning, and they took x-rays and did some blood work. Vet is not as concerned about the object but the toxins that object can release damaging the kidneys, liver and/or pancreas? She got two shots there and they sent me home with an antibiotic and something to calm the tummy when she eats (give one hour before). My concern, but not so much theirs, was the blood on the thermometer??? In the x-ray we can see something small vet thinks it's either in the small intestines or stomach. She is not eating or drinking water at all? I'm trying to make chicken and I'll try feeding her that but I'm not hopeful.
I'll post this on the medical site too but if anyone has any feedback I am all ears. When Sassparilla had the pneumonia I picked up some cold packaged meat to help get her mass amount of pills down, they both loved it. Should I get that just to try to get her eating again??
She's moving about and doesn't appear to be in pain but she is kinda blah and not the annoying or cuddly little stinker that she usually is? Plus she's not cuddling with me a night which is really not like her either.
I put water next to me so I can watch her and I've asked my daughter to check the poops (its hard though with two dogs) and last to check belly for bloating. Would a warm compress help things move? Tomorrow I'll pick up some pediatric electrolytes and vet recommended Pepcid ac (had some but it's expired so don't want to risk it). She loves fresh baked butternut squash so I'll get a few of those tomorrow too. I put yogurt on her nose making her lick it, anything else?? Any tricks of the trade that might be helpful is greatly appreciated.

I knew you were going to say that, F. LOL
I know it's normal, but in dogs with IBD and other malabsorption diseases, it's a disease symptom. I don't know if it's the excess gas or what, but these are really loud noises that almost sounds like machinery...whining, grinding, etc. I've always heard my dogs stomachs growling, but I never heard anything like this until JD first got sick. It's very alarming, and it only happens during flares.
Of course it's vital to know what's normal for your dog and to be vigilant with a dog who has a known GI problem : )
I too am having a hard time imagining a vet sending Josie home with medicine when they know there's an object and her symptoms are so severe. My vet told me one time that sometimes there can be an object that they can't see on an x-ray. If that's the case, they have to make a judgement regarding surgery depending on the symptoms and if the owner thinks the dog has eaten something. The small object is bad enough but what if there's more to it? This sounds like a medical emergency, not a wait and see --but hoping for the best for Josie.
I don't know if this will help, but when our lab mix was ill, I put my hand in the water bowl and he licked water out of my cupped hand as it dribbled out.
I hope she is doing better this evening,
How is Josie doing?
That is good news. Inquiring minds always want to know : )
I'm so glad she's feeling better!
