Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi there, my Labradoodle is 2.5 years old and whenever we have any company, he cries, whines, and wants to jump all over them.  We telll people to ignore him, but he makes it difficult because he jumps up hard on them.  He's super friendly and loves everyone, but sometimes it is crazy.  We tell him to sit and he will, but his excitement takes over and he can't resist.  Any ideas on how to break him of this?

I totally agree - Our last doodle Zak had to be reprimanded with strong vocals whereas Myla does not do well when we raise our voice.  We have to say "No Myla" in a normal tone and then praise when she does well - I have two granddaughters who are the same!  My oldest is 4 and you have to use a "no nonsense" voice where my youngest is so sensitive - you have to almost whisper a correction LOL.

Our Springer Spaniel is totally hyper and we have tried all sorts of techniques from leashing, ignoring, turning to the wall, putting our knees up to block, trying to put him in a stay (even if one of us holds him by the collar) until he calms, without any success at all.  Our doodles used to be fine when people came over but they have caught the Springer's anxiety and entering our house is embarrassing......

I haven't tried squirting, but think I will.

Thanks to all for the great tips!!! Having been having ALL these issues with April. Loves people and her greetings are an assault. Glad Im not alone in this!!!

Thank you to all my fellow doodle lovers.  I appreciate all the tips, suggestions, and advice.  It's good to know that other doodles are or have been the same way at some point.  Other than the visitor excitability, he is a wonderful dog!  In a few years, we plan on getting another Australian Labradoodle because we have been so thrilled with Cooper.  We'll know from day 1 that he'll need to be trained about the front door and visitor etiquette.  Thanks again!
