Like so many folks across the country, we've been inundated with snow this winter in the Northeast.  Today's snowfall, however, is the first one of the season that was heavy and wet and sticky (as opposed to light and fluffy and non-sticky).  Which means that this is the first time I'm dealing with Truffle  covered in little snowballs that are stuck in his fleece - particularly on his legs and on his belly. Does anyone out there have any ingenious suggestions for removing them other than bathing?   I removed as much as I could by hand with a towel soaked in very warm water, but was unable to get all of it.  The rest is melting pretty quickly, but I don't want him to catch cold.  Perhaps I shouldn't worry too much about him catching cold since he spends so much time frolicking in the cold?

Thanks in advance!

I find that Rue's are very easy to "comb" out. I just run a comb over them and they come off the fur (Be prepared for snow to go flyin' in the air!). Then I wrap her up nicely in a blankie on the couch! :)

Good Luck!

get a gallon or half gallon milk jug cut the top off just enough to pass their feet and hair by. fill with warm water and dip his feet in and out until they are all melted. squeeze the jug closed as you pull his feet out to squeegee the water off. towel dry his feet and your good to go. its the only way I've found to really get the snow clumps out with minimal work and effort. if its the first time I would do this with 2 people one holding the water and one dipping the feet.

Microfiber cloths!  The snow balls stick to it like valcro.  Then you can just shake it outside and hang it up by the door to dry for next time. :)

I would always take the boys directly to the bathtub and shower the balls away. But then I found it's easier to get the Muttluks boots. They don't mind the boots at all and snowballs have no chance.

I use mushers secret on paws to get in between toes.. never thought about microfiber cloth.. going to try that!

When this happens, the only thing I have found is to fill the tub at least as high as the snow on her legs and as warm as is comfortable and pick her up and set her in it. She fights me all the way, bracing all four paws on the rim of the tub, The water will cool down immediately, so I have to keep running hot water in to warm it up again. It will take 15 minutes to melt this stuff off.

Our Sadie looks like this, but also around her snout and belly. I try to towel dry and the use the hair dryer to melt the reast. Got to be careful with the temp of the dryer. She does not mind it and just stands still til we are done. But I am getting tired of all this snow here, so I ordered her boots and a coat. Hope they come soon!

Thanks for all your tips, everyone!  I would love nothing more than not to need to test out your solutions until next year, but alas, I fear it's not in the cards.  It's snowing yet again here.  Calgon, take me away!

I find the snowballs melt very quickly but when it's bad we do put our doodle in the bathtub and run luke warm water on her feet to get the snowballs off. Usually, she'll head to the couch for a nap after that and I have a fleece blanket that I put over her to warm her up!

I ordered the dog boots and just love them! Sadie does not mind wearing them and they do save snow from getting in between her pads. Still have to towel off a little snow, but not as bad!

I always dip Quincy's snowball feet in a bucket of warm water. I think if you warm a couple of towels in the dryer and wrap them around his belly that should take care of it.
