Does anyone have a recommendation for a good heart worm preventative? I know there are several that combine the heart worm preventative as well as the flea preventative. Not sure if one of those thyme meds are the best or to go with two separate medications. Is there one that all is for ticks too? We live in Georgia and Claire likes to take walks in the woods so I want her protected from all angles with the flea and tick medication also. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Heartguard and Frontline Plus work well for us. We live in the woods in southern Indiana and the ticks are terrible but Bailey has never gotten one! These meds have been on the market for years and are proven to be safe so we feel comfortable with them.
Gail's advice is wonderful. You want to go with something that works well, but I would definitely not do a combination of flea, tick and heart worm all in one. I have seen too many discussions on this website about Trifexis that are worrisome. I don't even give my dogs both preventatives on the same day.
I do not think Trifexis guards against ticks......that is why we use Frontline Plus....it does both fleas and ticks.
Thanks for your advice. We see our new Vet this afternoon!
For my guys, K-9 Advantix II has worked a zillion times better than Frontline Plus. We use that on the first of every month, and give Heartguard on the same day.
If the day ever comes that Frontline Plus does not work anymore, I will be switching to K-9 Advantix II.
I put the Frontline Plus on Bailey on the first of the month but I give her the Heartguard on the 10th of the month. Someone on DK advised doing it that way in case your dog has a reaction to either medication you would know which one it was.
We went to the vet. She put Claire on Sentinel and also an 8 month flea/tick collar Seresto. Hope they both work. Thanks for everyones advice!
