Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi friends! I've been lurking around for awhile and soaking in all of the great knowledge. Everyone on DK is AMAZING. Can't wait to finally share my updates once my puppy arrives. Our puppy was born Jan 24th and we get to take him home the last week in March.

I was wondering how often your breeder updated you with pictures of your puppy?

Our breeder is so nice and responsive but I feel like a pest asking her for more pictures. So far she has only posted one group shot. She said she was going to post individual pictures this weekend but didn't get around to it. She's torturing me! I literally reload the page every 10 minutes hoping for more pictures. I'm just so excited for our little guy to come home.

Thanks :)

Katie , Have you picked a pup out of the litter yet ?? they are adorable !!! Just send her a screen shot of this post and she will know your not by yourself in being excited ....lol If I was a breeder I'd want the folks that are getting my pups to be super excited ... We will be waiting for pic's from all you new doodle owners ... good thoughts and luck from Miss Beasley and Deb !

Not yet! We're picking him out at 7 weeks :)

I'm doing the same thing right now! I pick up Kona on March 1st and her breeder uploads new pictures every week. She's consistent about it, but I still refresh the site multiple times a day!!

Ah that's so soon!

Those puppies are adorable. Love the one with two front white paws.

So far, the litter I'll be getting my pup from is 3 days old and we've seen 2 photos. I feel like a bit of a freak because I enjoy watching the progress of other litters I was considering - but reading posts from others, I feel like I'm in good company!

I've noticed that some breeders post weekly pics while others don't post quite so much. It may have something to do with their comfort level on social media. Most breeders seem to post at least 3 photos at different weeks prior to the puppies going home (usually at week 8 or 9). Some post pictures every week, but that doesn't seem to be the rule.

I'll be interested to see how many our breeder posts. It's natural for prospective owners to want to see lots of photos, but I'd rather my breeder devote as much time as possible to the health and well being of the puppies, mamas and any other dogs that live with them. That's most important to me. I think it's reasonable to ask for a couple more photos if you're only seeing 1 or 2.

Can't wait to see photos of the baby you choose!

I totally agree. I would much rather her focus on the litter. She has an irishdodle litter and a goldendoodle litter right now. So I know she has her hands full!

Well Katie as you can tell, you are not alone. I think we all stalked the breeder websites for pictures. Heck I still stalk my breeders website looking at the new puppies and Yogi is getting close to 6 months old now. I did ask my breeder to send me pics once when we were waiting, I figured it was a small request when you figure how much money you are investing in her "product". ;-)

Haha that's very true! I'll hold out as long as possible then maybe ask for one :)

oh I feel for you!!!  Finally, your pup has been born and you instantly want to be with them ALL the time! our breeder was kind enough to update pics quite often. when born they had individual shot, then every week to two weeks they got another photo shoot.  She also gave us some video of litters interacting. All breeders are different.

best of luck and soon you will have the opportunity to take all the pics you want!!!

I will answer from the Breeders point of view. It has been many years, but at one time, I was part of a large Golden Retriever Breeder Facility in No. Ca.
It takes love, patience and a lot of work, to raise a litter properly. I kid you not, it is an around the clock endeavor! Leave for a few hrs. and one pays dearly! Remember, a litter if 8-10 pups ( my largest was 13) can pee and poop a lot! Oh, and the trouble they can get into once they are mobile! No matter how much puppy proofing one does...they will find a way to get into something!
So...taking pictures and updating, while it is all part of " the job", falls slightly down a few rungs on the ladder. At the same time, The Breeder knows your anxious and craves pictures and and updates. It is just a balancing act for her. Believe me, she is use to the emails and stalking...but taking care of the litter( and possibly her home and kids, and life in general) is #1 priority. Or at least, it should be.

Ro,

Thank you for this thoughtful comment. You expressed my sentiments on the issue. I would rather have the puppies and mom well tended to than an abundance of photos. I feel most breeders try and strike a balance. While it's true that owners pay quite a bit for a labradoodle puppy, I view it as an investment in the quality of life of the dogs and the breeders. I don't want breeders to have to compromise on proper care of the dogs and I also want them to make a decent wage and have a good quality of life.

Thanks Ro! I definitely agree, hence why I've been withholding bothering her with it. I'll just do my best to be patience and continue to stalk the site :)
