I do believe that they like music. We not only have music playing often in the house, but always in the car. We are also hobbyist musicians - they get all sorts of happy when we break out the guitars!
What kind of music? In this house it's anything but opera, so the range runs from Pop, Hawaiian Slack Key, Country, to good ol Rock & Roll and the dogs always gather and just chill. Nothing wild, but they do have to put up with R&B and I'm seriously into rhythm, bass is critical - - no complaints from dogs or cats.
I know my Max loves music, certain kinds of ballads, and when I play the piano.
I believe that some music can calm dogs down when they are stressed. I purchased a couple of CDs just for my Doodles: "Music My Pet" and "Dog Dreams". Sometimes I leave them on when they are home alone. They also work for humans.
I believe they do. Although my career has been in marketing and communications - a few years ago, I took on the challenge of running a large orchestra. It spurred my interest in the effects of music. I see, what I describe as the power of music, when we do programs in rehabilitation and nursing facilities. If it can do so much for humans, why not animals? I've had success with using classical music to train young rescue dogs to relax while riding in cars. When I brought my own pup home - a 2 hour drive -- his head splitting howls only stopped when I scrambled for a CD "Meditations by Bach." LOL He settled almost immediately and slept the whole ride home. But if I tried to change the music, he would wake and start to cry -- back to Bach! When I leave him home, I often leave music on. I don't think he cares much for rock and roll or blues, etc. but I do, so we compromise. I had a cat who paid no attention to music at all except for Native American flute music. He would come running. He loved flute music. He would roll and stretch making us all smile.
JD doesn't seem to have any reaction to music of any kind.
But I hope Jane will chime in here, because her Murphy hates music!
I have 2 doodles that listen to Country music all day everyday!! I'm not sure if they would prefer another type of music, just what I listen to most and they are used to it! I just feel it's better than a quiet house when we are gone!
Hi Jennifer!! Good to see you again :)
:-}
We usually leave music on when we go out for the night for Gavin. Not so much during the day for some reason? DH feels that Gavin likes country music best, so that's we we leave on - very low. We always left music going in the barn for the horses. My dad used to say it keeps them company :)
I'm not really sure if Libby likes music or not, but she listens to every day. I love music and never have it off unless the tv is on. We even listen to music while we are on our walks. When I am at desk, the first thing I do is turn on my music and she comes right over and gets under my desk at my feet and stays unitl I leave. It is a major part of her day and she seems to be ok with it!
