Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hello All,
I am looking for a rescue or kill shelter where I can adopt a Goldendoodle or Bernedoodle (preferably Bernedoodle). I'd much rather adopt/rescue then go the breeder route this time.
Can anyone help me out with some sites I can check out.
Thanks!
Sam

Thank you!
I will take a look. Appreciate it. I'm still new to this forum. :)
Also, is that the only info on this site for doodles in need of a home?
Thats just the PetFinder site that I see all the time. I'm looking more for a Doodle specialty shelter, etc.
Sam, there is no such thing as a doodle specialty shelter.
There are two nationwide doodle specific rescue groups, DRC and IDOG. Their dogs are kept in foster homes and listed on Petfinder, as are all dogs from rescue groups and most shelters. Use the Petfinder search function, enter your zip code, use "Standard Poodle as the breed, and any poodle mixes available in your area will come up.
It can be very difficult to find a doodle in rescue, the demand is far greater than the supply, happily. It is not uncommon for DRC to get 50 or 100 applications for a single dog.
Yeah, figured it is difficult.
Any idea of some good Bernedoodle breeders? Or Bernese Mtn Dog breeders/rescues? Were also in love with a berne haha
Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America. Breeders, breeder referrals, and rescue:
Thank you!
All breed rescues, Oodles and Poodle Rescues also get doodles, which is why you are better off keeping an eye on Petfinder or the one we like better is Adopt-a-Pet (adoptapet.com) and they do have Labradoodle, Goldendoodle and Poodle breeds listed to search for. Good luck.
Thank you!
Yeah, I was just about to update this discussion asking if anyone knew of any Bernedoodle breeders?
I know for them, I will need a breeder.
Sam, I volunteer with the DRC (doodle rescue) and here is what I tell people looking to rescue a doodle. You need to be proactive. You can also apply to rescue through the DRC.
Here are some additional ideas for finding a rescue doodle:
1. Here is an interesting article that points out dog breed differences genetically, especially mixed breed dogs like doodles: http://www.animalfarmfoundation.org/pages/Multimedia-Infographics
2. Here is an article on what a doodle really is: http://doodlerescue.org/group/isadoodleforyou/forum/topics/what-is-...
3. Here is a helpful article on how to find a doodle on Petfinder and in shelters: http://doodlerescue.org/group/isadoodleforyou/forum/topics/looks-li...
4 PETFINDER (putting in all zip codes within your driving distance) as well as possible dog breeds that could be doodles starting with poodle which will include poodle mixes; Sometimes doodles are listed as terrier mixes;
5. GOOGLE in shelters and humane societies within your driving range. Check their sites often.
