According to this article- a dog reacts to the emotions of the moment and not to what was done before.
Since I invariable laugh when Quincy does something naughty and get chastised by my son, I hope the same holds true and Quincy does not get empowered by my giggling at his (bad) antics! ( e.g.Lobsters on the Lawn)

Quincy was framed!!! Some other dog came in and ate the pillow, he's innocent I tell you!
I went to my first obedience class the other night and she did a demonstration for us. They took one of the dogs out of the room, and then one of the trainers tore up a bunch of paper and threw it in the middle of the room. They brought the dog back into the room, took him over to the paper. The trainer looked at him, and did what we all do when our dogs are "bad dogs" and said "Thunder, did you do that?!" "What a bad dog" The dog kept hanging his head lower and lower and looked sooo guilty, it was kind of funny.
An intruder did it!
Sorry Quincy, you eyes give you away! The pooch in the video is pretty darn cute too.
The "zebra" did it! Quincy tried to save the pillow !
"I swear it wasn't me, Mom. I swear!"
So funny! In our house, Chloe is the culprit and Myla is the narc. If Chloe is doing something naughty Myla will come running into the room and paw at us or whine to get us to go see and sure enough, Chloe will be eating the wreath above our bed! The only shame she feels is that we're on to her and she has a little sister who is SO not on her side!
So laugh on, I really don't think it matters!
Yes, dogs live in the here and now....never the past or future.
