Brush for Grooming

Hey everyone, 

Can someone give me some suggestions on a "heavy duty" brush or at least one that works really well for a matted coat?  Archie recently got shaved down because of how bad his matts were, but now that he's short haired, we will be brushing him better and more often as his hair grows back to avoid this problem come summer time. With that said, we need a better brush. The brush we have just doesn't seem strong enough or good enough.  Any suggestions?

While I haven't had any experience yet ( coming home Saturday!) les poochs and Master Grooming Tools brushes (a cheaper version of les poochs that have good reviews).

I can't really recommend what will be good, but so far I have a couple safari brushes, one that is similar to les pooches, and one that is a dematting brush. Just haven't needed the dematting one yet to know how it will do. It was rated well on amazon. Btw, I'm curious how old Archie is? His coat looks similar to Yogi's, so just wondering when to expect this.

He is a few weeks over a year old. His hair grows like a weed! LOL.  Btw, what are the names of your brushes, so I can look them up.  I want to get a demoting brush if its not too fancy

I use the furminator brush which is great. I am currently using it because the les pooches brushes are on back order. But having puppy fur makes it a bit easier to use the furminator brush. It isn't too expensive either. If I am remembering correctly it's like $20 for the furminator brush.

I just purchased the Master Grooming Tool ergonomic dematting brush on amazon.  Only $10 so thats perfect.

Ok...while this sounds silly it works great. Years ago we had a long haired shepherd who would get massive tangles & he chewed on my daughters brush so in a pinch I used it on him one day. Nothing had ever worked so well or been so cheap. It had hard bristles pretty spread out so I would start with that one & then bought one with bristles closer together to finish up with. They never broke, and cleaned up well after soaking in warm soapy water.

Whatever brushes you decide on, I would suggest you initially try it on yourself so you know what it feels like and what kind of pressure to use when applying it to your doodle.  I have one doodle - Charlie who has extremely sensitive skin and he needs to be grooming differently than Beau.  BTW - Archie is a doll!

Thanks Linda! I will do just that.  As of now I just ordered the debater brush, so to use that on me wouldn't really work LOL, but I will try a brush.

We use Les Pooches and they work well. I have the green one and the purple one. The purple one is for my doodle that has much coarser hair and the green one for my dood that has softer hair. I know they are on back order but I am very happy with them and they have been well worth the money. Hope you find the one that works best for your doodle!

I just got a green Safari dematting brush for Sadie and love it! She gets so matted on her belly and tail. It does not hurt her and she will lay perfectly still while I brush her. It really gets those mats out. Haven't used anything else that works
as good and it is cheap, $12.
