She is wild!

Kona is a very crazy, WILD puppy! She runs around so fast I'm worried she's going to hit the wall. She is just a little ball of energy. She looks so sweet and innocent when she's sleeping, but don't let that fool you, lol! I feel bad because we live in an apartment and I wish she had a backyard to play in and relieve some of her energy. I'm looking forward to when she can go on walks so that she can play outside.

Does anyone here have any advice on how to help her release some of this crazy energy? I'm hoping as she gets older she'll be more interested in cuddling and such :) I can't wait to see her grow.

Quincy was never much of a cuddler, but at about  a yearis he started to jump up and sit by us, and even rest his head on our shoulders (he lays across the seat cushion).  He also now will move up and lay in between us in the bed for part of the night whereas he used to either sleep in the shower (coolness) for at our feet.  But his more snuggly behavior all took time!

Quincy is beautiful! I agree with you, I think it all comes with time. Kona doesn't mind being held (for a little bit) so I enjoy that time with her!

Nicky is now 18 plus weeks old and is starting to only now cuddle. When we first had him he was a nut! He would nip anytime we tried to cuddle and we had to constantly play with him-no down time. He still needs a lot of attention and rarely entertains himself but he's slowly getting more calmer and mostly stopped nipping. There are times he wants out of my arms but I don't blame him- I think I squeeze him too hard lol. I can't control myself.

We had no idea that zoomed was normal and we thought there was something really wrong with him. ....but of course I found out that it was normal by reading DK. Wish I read that earlier, it would've relieved my concern.

I think this is one of those "give it time " thing. He will be calmer and cuddly.

This gives me hope - thank you! I had previously heard of the zoomies so it thankfully didn't worry me too much, but I was concerned she was going to hurt herself. She had a bit of the zoomies yesterday as well, but they didn't last very long. She just has so much energy! I try to help her release it to the best of my ability.

Hi Lauren - Kona is adorable!  I remember the puppy zoomies, for sure.  Eloise is 2 now and still has bursts of craziness, but she is so much calmer overall.  :)  When our yard is wet or I don't want her getting totally filthy, I take Eloise to tennis or basketball courts at the park (enclosed with fences) so she can run around silly.  Once Kona is thru all her shots and is safe to be out, maybe that would be another alternative for you.  (A word of caution - sometimes the surface can be hard on their paws and nails, so something to watch for.)  It's a great way to burn energy - she can run super fast at the courts, which is just something she doesn't get to do on a normal walk. 

I can relate to what others have said about cuddliness, too.  Ellie wasn't too cuddly as a puppy, but has become a huge cuddlebug over time...though most of the time it's still on HER terms,  ha!

Thank you, Julie! Eloise is beautiful! Tennis and basketball courts is a good idea - I'll have to try that once she gets all of her shots. She's a very curious little puppy... I can't wait until she is able to venture out and explore!

Is there an off-leash dog park that you could go to a few times a week?  That would certainly help to quell the zoomies a bit.

There's actually a new dog park that was just built in our community. I plan on taking Kona once she has gotten all of her shots!

Luna started going when she was about 16 weeks old after the vet's OK.  My best advice is to NOT bring any kind of toy - some dogs can be aggressive resource guarders at dog parks and you don't want to start something.  Also if your pup is scared and wants to hide at your feet that's ok!  Let her observe for the first few times and she will likely start to explore and play soon.

Hahaha SAME FOR US!!!! Daisy is either a sweet and cuddly little darling or a raging lunatic!! We have found that multiple good walks each day and also puppy play dates help because they tire her out! There is no getting rid of the zoomies, there is only trying to manage it lol!
