I have known a lot of people that use and like the Thunder shirts for various reasons. Not sure if specifically car rides. However if it is anxiety that is the problem I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. It works for storms and fireworks and things like that.
Having the dog securely strapped into a car harness and facing forward helps.
I don't think it could hurt to try the thundershirt.
Let us know if you try it and if it works. Sending tummy calming thoughts your way.
I tried the thundershirt for Charlie when he was young. It helped but did not cure his motion sickness. He still gets sick in our SUV if he has to ride in the back. So now, if the doods are going with us, we take my Ford Fusion and it rides so smooth he does not get sick. He is 3 years old now. My neighbor uses it for thunderstorms, etc when her dog gets frightened and she swears by it.
Guinness got very car sick as a puppy. I had a prescription for cerenia which is an anti-nausea med. I gave it to him before car rides and it worked like a charm. There were no side effects to this drug. Eventually he outgrew it and now he can ride for hours with no problem.
Jane, did you give Guinness the meds even for short rides? Our Lilly gets car sick but my kids are disappointed because they want her to come "watch" their soccer and baseball games. Her limit is about 5 minutes before she throws up. :(
I would give it a try!
