Chin licks

Does anyone else have a doodle who does chin licks?  My ALD has always been a chin licker and he frequently greets me this way.  Sometimes he even jumps up and licks me on the chin, but most of the time it is when I am sitting (here at the computer desk) or on the couch.  He just comes up and gives me a lick on the chin.  Our house guest (another doodle) does the same.  When I am scratching his head, he gives me a chin lick.  Groucho did an even stranger chin lick.  My friend who is in her seventies and an avid walker would frequently go walking with us and usually started out with Groucho on leash.  He started  jumping up and licking her chin but never touching her.  He would just jump up and give her chin a lick.  Anybody else have doodles who do this?

Harlow gives chin licks, especially when I first come home from work.  I believe that she learned it from her beagle brothers.  What I have read on the pack hunting breeds (think beagles, foxhounds, harriers, etc.) it is a form of greeting to the pack leader.  The beagle brothers use to make a point of howling slightly off-key of one another if I did not come in the house as quickly as they thought appropriate and would jump on us whenever we came home.  After I read about the chin sniffing/licking greetings I made a point of bending over so the boys could sniff and/or lick my chin.  The barking/greeting frenzy was greatly reduced.  Your chin-licking doods are showing a lot of respect and look to you as pack leader.

I wish Sawyer did chin licks. He prefers full on mouth kisses. *sigh*. :-)

[Emily, Bentley, & Maserati]

Maserati will lick us anywhere on our faces! Bentley is more of a cheek/lip (when he catches us off guard) kisser. Bentley is also more selective about kisses. We get them occasionally, and we know he means it. He only licks my husband and I and a handful of others. Maserati on the other hand has lots of love to give to almost anyone who will let him! :)
