Help! My doodle ate a brownie. How much chocolate is too much?

I'm waiting to get through to the 24-hour emergency pet clinic so I thought I'd ask here. Charlie ate a gluten free, dairy free brownie (or maybe one and a half or two). He looks fine and is acting normal, but how long would it take for symptoms to show? Is there something I'm supposed to do? How much is too much chocolate? He's is 1 years old and is 57 pounds.

You are very welcome. I've had that website and link bookmarked for a very long time. My Golden , who just passed at 13 and his Grandfather got into a bag of Milky Way mini bars, ( stolen off of the dining room table) when he was a puppy. Thankfully, they ate the wrappers and all and never had the chance for the chocolate to get into their system.

From my looking at Ro's chart it looks like he may be mildly affected. Did this just happen? You could try to make him vomit with 2-4 teaspoons f hydrogen peroxide if you have it on hand.

It happened like 20 minutes ago. I'm on the phone with pet poison control but they keep putting me on hold. Charlie looks fine but OMG, I'm terrified. I've never done the hydrogen peroxide. I just give a teaspoon of it? And it's safe? He'll just vomit?

Give 2-4. It should be fine and he should vomit. I would do it.

Thanks for the info and your quick replies. I was getting the hydrogen peroxide, when Pet Poison Control came back on the line and told me the same thing. I gave him 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide (for his size -- 48 pounds) and he started throwing up within minutes. He threw up 7 times!

He's acting normal now. They said, in an hour to reintroduce water (a little bit every 10 minutes for half an hour) and then slowly reintroduce a little food at a time. 

They said chocolate-wise he should be fine. Now for a couple of days we just have to keep an eye out for pancreatitis symptoms that dogs can get when they get into high sugar, high fat food. Stuff like abnominal pain, him looking like he can't get comfortable, tender tummy, spontaneous vomiting (like not now, in a day or something), not eating, lethargy.

Yes! do make sure you have a bottle handy. The lady said, when I was on the phone with Pet Poison Control, that even when a dog vomits because of the way their stomach is shaped they can only expel 70% of what's in their tummy. They can never completely empty from vomiting (the way we do). So I'm assuming, the faster you give them the hydrogen peroxide, the better. To make sure whatever you're trying to get out has a better chance of coming up. 

Charlie had dinner now and is sleeping soundly.

Ps. The vet told me to put a smear of peanut butter in a small bowl under the hydrogen peroxide, so it tempts him to drink it. He didn't even care. He slurped up the hydrogen peroxide. This dog eats/drinks anything!
