Hooray for you! I don't live in your area, but my suggestion for potty breaks would be places where dogs usually aren't found. We have grassy areas in front of many businesses so we used them as well as school grounds while the kids weren't in session. We made sure the leash was on before we opened the door and we carried our pup to where we wanted him to go. Our pup was 3 1/2 months old and he didn't go most of our stops - in fact in our 250 mile drive, he only went once and we knew to stop because he got really squirmy. We didn't offer him food but we did offer him water several times.
I agree with Nancy, avoid any designated dog potty area like at rest stops...people do not pick up and you don't want your baby exposed to anything. Drive safe and enjoy the new one.
Thank You my friends, for very helpful advice. watch up for pics.. :)
Have a safe trip!!
Yay Barb! I think it might be too late to give you tips for the drive but in case it isn't I will share my experience with Omar's 8-hour drive from Ontario to Quebec. As you know I got my little boy from the same breeder as you. He fussed and whined a bit at the beginning of the drive but he settled down quickly once we put him in his doggy car seat. He was an angel after that point. We stopped twice for potty breaks and we chose an area in the parking lot where no other dogs have done their business. We put a newspaper down on the ground and he understood right away!
Good luck with your drive. Can't wait to see pictures!!!
I hope that by the time you see this you are home and settled in with your new baby after an uneventful trip! Congrats on your new family member!
Hope your travels are going smoothly!
Safe travels - can't wait for pictures!
