Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Help! I am trying to decide if I want to cut Willa's hair shorter for summer or leave it long.
Willa is a chocolate, fleece Australian Labradoodle. I live in South Mississippi where it gets really humid and hot during the summer. Additionally, as most doodles do, Willa LOVES water. I know she will get in the water every chance she gets when outside this summer.
Prior to getting her I was determined that my doodle would keep a long coat. However, I am worried more about her being uncomfortable than being pretty. I have heard some discussion that the long hair is actually cooler. ???? She is SO adorable with her long wavy coat.....but I don't want to be selfish and keep it long it it will be uncomfortable for her.
Willa's hair turns a lighter "red" on the ends (about an inch or so) and is a dark chocolate underneath.
Should I cut her hair short for summer or leave her long? Which is more comfortable for her?

What a cutie. And he likes Guinness Porter? Or is that just a special shot for St. Pat's Day?
He actually had the ice water special with a bit of corned beef.
Abe is so cute! You did a great job!
Thanks, I am very new to doggie grooming, this was my first time doing his "short"cut.
Short is definitely more comfortable for her. Are you going to do it yourself? Take your time if you are. And it does grow back quickly.
The first year of Charlie's life I left him long, then when the temps got warm he was miserable. I had him cut way down and he was so happy! Now, I keep him between an inch or two. Way easier upkeep - especially with two doodles!
Willa is gorgeous! I am so glad you posted this discussion, as I have been trying to figure out what to do for our pups for the summer, as well. Like you, we love their soft shaggy coats, but we know they will be hard to manage in the summer with the beach, swimming and being outside in the heat and humidity. It sounds like others have had good luck with leaving about an inch of hair, so I think we will ask for that. I'm so nervous about getting them groomed and have no idea who we will get to do it. We are in a small town and our choices are limited. Can't wait to see more pics of Willa!
