you babe is adorable too !
The Vet we go to is ridiculously outrageous I think. I'm in Southeast Wisconsin.
Rue had an eye infection a few weeks ago right after her spay (which cost $398) the visit to get her in to see the vet for him to look at her eye for 3.7 seconds was $75 and the antibiotics were $25, she needed a follow up visit to see if they worked and to re check the eye that was $25. I don't normally get out of there with a bill less than $200.
Hi, Rebecca.
Our vet offers an in-house health care plan that includes all vaccines for your pet and provides significant discounts on office visits, dentistry, surgery, and more. The annual cost is $209 for the first year of enrollment and $179 thereafter. As long as you pay the fee each year it will never change, even for older pets. Our cat is enrolled in this program and when we get our puppy in 3.5 weeks, we will enroll him, too. So you can compare your plan to our vet's plan, I have included a link to the page that shows the benefits covered. There is no pre-existing condition clause and all pets are eligible. We get a 50% discount on the s/n cost, which makes the package pay off when routine vaccination costs are factored in. I'm also signing our puppy up for a health care plan with Healthy Paws, to cover non-routine medical costs. The plan will cost about $30 per month with a $250 deductible and no out of pocket maximum and 90% reimbursement for costs.
I think your vet's plan sounds like it is reasonably priced, assuming it comes with discounts for the s/n and other treatment provided by your vet. If it only covers the vaccines prior to the s/n, I would say you might want to shop around for a vet that has a better in-house plan. The vast majority of the pet insurance plans to not include benefits for routine costs, although I think Pet Plan does provide an "add-on" option you can purchase to cover between $300 to $500 in routine care costs. I did the math though and our vet's plan makes more financial sense for us. I hope this is helpful for you.
Our puppy package for all shots/vaccines were $350. Includes a year of ear washing, toe cutting, etc, whenever we want. They're close so we bit the bullet.
My SO had us get the probiotics crap. I was going to buy it online for a fraction of the price, but it got snuck into our bill and well, there's that.
Your puppy package price was a good deal IMO.
I forgot to mention, the costs you cited seam very reasonable. It does sound like you might be getting discounted visits and treatment with your vet's plan. The price is almost the same as our vet's annual plan. I would generally avoid getting food or medicine or supplements through the vet. It seems you can get them online for a good price, too. Feed your puppy some yogurt with his food on occasion, which offers many of the benefits of a probiotic.
DUH! There is a puppy package that vets offer? Need to know for my grand dog. The fees for stand alone care is way more than our vet charges, but puppy package would be way less than stand alone costs.
I live at the Jersey Shore and my vet's well visit is $57 not counting anything else that's just to walk in the door
