Ok so I know this is gross and slightly ridiculous. Lacey comes home next weekend, and I'm driving myself pretty crazy thinking of last minute details.

We live an apartment that does not have a balcony so fake grass isn't an option. I will have to be carrying her outside to go to the bathroom. I am well aware of the risks of Parvo and I promise her pretty paws will not be roaming on the grass until she has all her shots.

I already have a bunch of poop bags to take care of picking it up, but my question is, where do you put it? Our apartment building has no garbage bins outside and the only public garbage our building has is in the garage, on the opposite side of the building. With how many times puppies go to the bathroom - I think it just might be a little crazy to keep running around the building while carrying her around.

Has anyone had a similar issue to this while living in an apartment? What did you end up doing? I really want to avoid bringing it indoors to our apartment but I'm out of ideas - my brain is on overload.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

LOL!

I don't have any advice but what I do know is that when I first brought Myla home, her poops were not that solid so even if I could flush most of it in the toilet, there would still be enough on the bag that I wouldn't want it in my trash can.  I think the genie idea is one worth looking into!

Thanks everyone for the input! Hahah Rose, stylish and WARM PJs will be a must, considering its back down to 23 degrees in Cleveland.

Myla, that's a really good point. I'm thinking diaper genie might be my best option. We might try out the puppy pads as well. We used them with my mom's dog when we were trying to potty train during the winter months and they worked well. Either way I have a feeling there will be many more trips to Petsmart and target in our future before her arrival this weekend.

You must be soooo excited!  I can still remember my excitement before picking Myla up!  I couldn't stand it!!!!  Have fun and enjoy!

We are SO excited Wendy. It feels like these last few days are going so slow. It's crazy that the day is almost here. I feel like our countdown has been going on for so long, but at the same time the last two weeks have just flown by. We met her last week and it was love at first sight for us. I am just hoping that her homecoming goes well and that she sleeps in the car and doesn't get car sick. I feel like I'm seeing more and more posts on dogs getting car sick. We have a 3 our car ride home and it could be worse but I'm already worrying about her. I will be sure to keep my blog updated on how everything goes once our little girl comes home. :)

Just put a towel on  your lap and cuddle, cuddle, cuddle - if she gets sick, exchange towel and cuddle, cuddle, cuddle!  I'm so excited for you!!!  Have fun!!!!

I will definitely bring lots of towels and emergency stuff just to be safe. The breeder keeps telling us how much of a cuddler she already is. I'm praying it stays that way! Thank you! And Myla is adorable btw!!!
We had an 8-hour car ride home with our new puppy and he wasn't car sick. He even peed outside at the rest stops! I put a sheet of newspaper down on the ground and he got it, although he did not actually pee on the newspaper but I was thrilled. He was crying and fussy at first but when we put him in a doggy car seat, he quieted right down and fell asleep. He woke up again a few times (it was after all an 8-hour drive) and we made sure to pull over to let him pee when he awoke. It worked out better than I ever could have hoped for! Best of luck with everything!!!
Kristen-I bought a few pairs of yoga/track sweatpants in black & grey & wore them a lot in the first few weeks. That way if I had a jacket on, it just looked like I had normal sweatpants on, LOL. I can't help with the poop dilemma as I have a deck on my apartment and grass outside with outdoor trashcans. However, the diaper gene sounds like a great idea!

At least you are thinking about everything beforehand, although I'm sure things will poop, uh, pop up after you bring her home.  The trash can thing is not just a problem in an apartment building - the park where we walk Libby has no trash cans other than at the entrance of the park.  Not only is it annoying to have to carry the poop around, I'm sure it leads to lots of poop that is not picked up because people just don't feel like carrying it around.  Oh, and it's only at 1 entrance so if you leave the other way there is none until you get home!

I use put a couple of wipes (bathroom) in a plastic bag and pick up the doodles with them and put it in a plastic bag..empty the bag in the toilet and down it goes….it releases easy with the wipes ….works for us!  (I have a mini doodle).

Diaper pail? ziplock bags?
