Newby here...Curious about my girl Honey and her unique not so poodle-like look.

[Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?]

Hello everyone, I've been scouting this site for a bit trying to figure out if any of your darling doodles look any like our little Honey and trying to figure out what her coat might do as she gets older. She definitely takes after her retriever side more but still has some poodle features like her long legs and big paws (huge a actually), a bit longer snout and though its hard to tell if she'll have a beard which is looking unlikely she still has longer patches of hair on her snout/forehead area close to the eyes, a little under her chin and patches of longer hair on both sides of her snout going down towards her mouth. The hair on her body is definitely a mix, the very ridge of her back seems really straight but the rest of her body has that very soft almost downy poodle hair just not supper curly. She also sheds some, wondering if she'll slow down the shedding after she looses her puppy coat and how long that might take? Some of the photos I took at 11 week and some more recently...any input?

Your Honey looks a lot like my Finn did. He didn't have a beard, long ear fur or the fan on his tail until he "matured" a bit. He's not curly, just wavy but very thick fur and different textures on different parts of his body. Honey is adorable. Enjoy!

She's so cute!  

She looks a little more wavy than Luna did at that age, so I'd predict a shaggier coat than the one Luna has.

Your pictures are adorable!  Your Honey's coat looks darker than my Shaggy's but take a look at the pictures I posted of him as a puppy and the most recent one of him at 2 years old.  I love his shaggy look so much that I've decided not to shave him down at this time, just trim him up at the feet, belly and a bit at the mouth.  He does shed quite a bit but he's easy to brush and doesn't matt much.  Honey will have many different looks in the next 2 years....enjoy!!

First of all...Honeys picture is the most adorable puppy picture..EVER! And shes a little wavier than Lola but her coat sounds similar, when you said wavy down middle of her back and yet super soft everywhere else! Lola is 6 months and I cant wait to see how she looks in another 6 months!! From what I understand we are in for many coat changes in this first year!! Congrats on your Honey!

Hi Gaby,

You new puppy reminds me exactly of my Truman.  He is almost 13 weeks now and I am not sure what we are going to end up with either!   He too is getting tuffs of fur under his chin and the side of his cheeks.  The hair on his head is getting longer everyday, but the hair around eyes and the top of his snout is still quite short, and reminds me of an owl!   We will just have to wait and see...

Hi Gaby, Here is Barkley at 8 weeks, quite similar but I think Honey's coat may be thicker than his was (using my IPad so will post a second pic of Barkley at 6 months)

Barkley at 6 months.. He shed when he was a puppy and still sheds..a lot!!
