Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all,

After 4 long years of waiting, I finally graduate with my M.ed and have adopted a doodle as a reward.  (I fear free time can you tell) .

After over 100 hours of research, I selected this little boy from a small breeder in Utah.  I get to meet him on Easter Weekend.

Please meet the newest addition to my family:

Nimbus

I know what you mean about the fur glove and imprints! My family has a black lab and a great pyrenees so there is black and white fur on pretty much everything I own. Having Ragley has been a HUGE improvement in the pet hair category. It is so nice not to have to worry when she snuggles against my clothes or lays on the couch. Are there any other puppies in the litter that look more poodle-like?

I think that if non to very light shedding is a very important criteria to you, then you might be better off with a curly F1B or an Australian Labradoodle,, but there are no guarantees either way.You might want to also consider a Standard Poodle. They look very much like Doodles when they are not in a show cut and their hair is long.  Both puppies you posted look like they will grow up to be very retrieverish looking. There are some threads on here of people posting puppy to adult pictures and that may give you a better idea of what certain puppy types might grow up to look like, I'm not sure what the tiles of those threads were, but you might find them in a search.

When I was looking for a doodle three years ago, a breeder sent me this information so I could make a decision on what kind of doodle I was looking for.  I do not know if they breed goldendoodles in the same way, but would think so.  But it did clarify to me what the F1, F1B, F2, etc meant and it might help others.

"There are several different ways to produce a Labradoodle:

F1 = 50% Labrador and 50% Poodle - This is Lab to poodle cross, this is

first generation, resulting in healthier offspring! Hair type can be smooth

like a Lab, wirey look like a Irish wolfhound or Wavy/curly like a Poodle,

they can shed or not shed, pups in the same litter can vary. This is not

the best cross for people with severe allergies.

F1-B = 25% Labrador Retriever and 75% Poodle (F1 Labradoodle and

Poodle cross) - This is Labradoodle bred to Poodle, Wavy Curly shaggy

look doodle very consistent in coat types. F1B is the MOST likely of any

to be non shedding and Allergy friendly then ANY doodles and is the

easiest coat to take care of.

F2 is breeding a F1 Labradoodle and F1 Labradoodle cross -

",

F3 = F2 Labradoodle and F2 Labradoodle cross

Multi-generation = F3 or higher generation Labradoodle and F3 or higher

generation Labradoodle cross - This is what the Australian labradoodles usually are.  Australian labradoodles generally have a more consistent coat

Australian Breed Description, Coat::

The Labradoodle is a very popular mixed breed that does not have a breed

standard, however it is preferred that the dog has a wooly and curly coat while

retaining many characteristics of the Lab. The hair of this breed should be little

to no shedding.

Not that you need more advice, but I don't think there's much difference in the pups either…not enough to make a prediction on shedding.  They are both gorgeous but if shedding is a big concern for you, and it sounds like it is,you would be better off with an F1b Golden Doodle( higher percentage of poodle genes and a curlier coat) or a multigenerational Australian Labradoodle.  When I was researching doodles, I thought that an F2 breeding would be more consistent than an F1 in coat but found out that this was not true. An F2 pup can wind up having mostly retriever genes or poodle genes. I don't know what is possible at this point, but I wish you good luck whatever you decide.

" There is no guarantee's in either generations, just luck and the ability for love to transform the "i don't" into the "I don't care"

This is a wonderful quote and truer than you may know yet. These guys steal your heart.

Good luck with your decision.

He has the sweetest face!

That's an awesome attitude & a wonderful quote!  There's a lot to be said for listening to your heart :)  A lot of us here know our doodles - curly or straight --were meant to be ours!   Nimbus is beautiful!  He has the sweetest eyes and love those silky ears. Can't wait to watch him grow.

OMD!  This little guy is adorable!  Congratulations on your Degree and getting sweet little Nimbus!

Is it Oh My Doodle?
Oh My Dog is the usual meaning...but here on DK, Oh My Doodle, fits too.

Congratulations and welcome!  I applaud the "I don't care" attitude - I think once you've fallen in love it would be way too hard to switch.  Can't wait to see how Nimbus turns out, coat-wise, but I already know he'll be loved!
