Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
So, we know there both two young yet, but they don't act it (humpin little buggers, espcially Louie!)
Because of there gorgeous coats, unique colours and amazing personalities we was thinking of studding Louie & Dougal later on.
Does anyone know what age they have to be to be able to stud them?
Also, the main reason is because we really want another puppy, but my mum said she will only get one if Louie & Dougal stud, and the puppy is extra cute (which it will be) and it'll be a fun, different experience as we've never studded a dog or anything before.
Thanks for your help :)

Yes i am going to think long and hard about it, as i mentioned, they are both far to young yet, it was just a general inquiry about it, didn't think i'd get so much negative feedback and so many people trying to belittle me, and agree with them. Crazy! But thanks for your help!
The editor in me must explain some word usage here:
they're = they are (they're cute)
their = possession (their coats)
there = placement (over there)
Okay -- now I feel better!
I'm an honor's degree student, i think i know my English. But, as i am not in an exam i think i will type/write how ever i want to. Thanks again!
Honors degree doesn't have an apostrophe, as it's neither possessive nor a contraction -- just saying . . .
Well done clever clogs. :)
Again, i couldn't care less about my typing or spelling as im not in an exam, im typing to woman who shouldn't really be taking up my time, not worth it.
How horrible can some people get over just asking one simple question?! wow, glad i don't live near you lot!! (crazy woman)
But well done on your amazing belittling efforts once again. :) Your great. (you're*)
You'll find many different opinions and perspectives here on DK. As you have learned, not everyone will agree with you, but expressing yourself in a way that's clear and easy to read, will (at least) increase your chances of being understood.
As far as using either of your dogs as sires for a litter, you might, indeed, end up with "extra cute," but very unhealthy, puppies. Is that what you or your mum really desire?
I am not saying people should agree with me. But i just want to make it clear that:
1) I WOULD NOT BE UNETHICAL WHEN STUDDING MY DOGS OUT, I WOULD USE ALL THE CORRECT PROCEDURES AND ETHICAL WAYS OF BREEDING.
2) I AM NOT DEFIANTLY GOING TO DO THIS, I WAS JUST ASKING A SIMPLE QUESTION.
3) I AM NOT GOING TO RUN A PUPPY FARM!!!!!!!!!! I JUST WANTED TO MAYBE USE THEM OR JUST ONE OF THEM AS A STUD AS WE WAS THINKING OF GETTING ANOTHER PUPPY BUT WOULD LOVE ONE OF LOUIE OR DOUGALS.
i don't know why everyone on here is thinking that i wouldn't do all the test, and pay for all the checks ECT cause ive said 100 times I WOULD!!!
i wouldn't have unhealthy puppies, why would i do that!?
And just as an opinion back, they wouldn't necessary always be unhealthy, they could be perfectly fine and healthy pups. You shouldn't tarnish every experience with the same brush and think the same for every dog. You don't actually know they would be unhealthy. They could be perfectly fine.
BUT if i was to stud them, I WOULD do all the test needed.
I don't see why people on here keep thinking i wouldnt?! ive said every time that I WOULD!
One thing that you may not be considering is what it's like to live with an intact male dog. It's a LOT of work and a lot of responsibility. Male dogs left intact can also be very territorial and can be a lot to handle.
I think the answer to your question can be easily summed up. If you got your dog from a reputable breeder there should be a clause in your contract that clearly states you cannot breed your dog and it should be spayed/neutered. If you signed a contract, then you must abide by it. If your breeder had no such contract, IMO they are not a reputable breeder and based on that fact alone, you should not breed your dog.
Hi,
We did sign a contract so i will check this. But can i ask a question, why do the breeders but this in their contract? why don't they allow for this to happen?
Also if its not in the contract, but we do have one, could we still stud him? And are the contracts the same for breeders in the UK as they are in the USA? thanks x
Sarah, Reputable breeders spend thousands of dollars on their breeding dogs and do years and years of testing to ensue that their dogs are healthy and the best temperaments, etc. are being passed down. They do not just breed dogs because they are cute, etc. So much goes into good dog breeding and they want their lines to continue to be health tested and genetically strong. I really think you need to go get your contract and read through it immediately and see what exactly you signed. If dog breeding is something you are interested in, find a reputable breeder that may be willing to mentor you so it is done right and ethically.
As for your question about intact males...just some of the problems can be humping, roaming, marking, and fighting with other males. You can be setting yourself up for a world of problems with your male dog. I know our dog parks will not allow unneutered males in our parks.
Please listen to the advice you are getting here, Sarah. Enjoy your dog. Be proud of him. Get him neutered and when the time comes for you or a family member to get another dog, go through the proper channels and find a breeder that does it right.
"humpin" as you put it isn't really a sexual thing (except of course when they are actually breeding a female) it's more of a dominance behavior.
As for the stud dog thing, you might choose a different forum for asking these kinds of questions, there are some on this site who will bully you until you either submit to their opinion or drop the subject -of course they will stay and continue to beat this horse to death when you leave. Just sayin'
