So Max, is normally a bit of a suck. He is not aggressive in the least, and he has never been protective. He doesn't even bark when someone comes to the door, or at the mailman. Really the only time he barks is if it is taking me too long to get my shoes on to go for a walk. Now I am not complaining, he's a lover not a fighter, and I like it that way. Before last night the only time he has done any kind of protective type of bark is if the coyotes were near my back fence. He did this low woof bark, which is different from his normal high pitched puppy bark. Anyhow, last night, my husband was snoring up a storm, and I wanted to whack him across the head because I couldn't sleep, it sounded like a bear was sleeping next to me. Rather than whack him across the head, which I am sure he wouldn't enjoy, I snuck into Amanda's room. (Amanda is my oldest daughter, who hasn't actually lived at home in 2 years, but we still call it her room, and have left it basically the same.) I was so happy to have no snoring, and Max jumped up with me curling up for some real restful sleep. At about three in the morning, he stands up on the bed and looks out the window, which I had open because I like it cool at night. He starts doing that low woof bark, and I am of course getting annoyed, it's three in the morning for crying out loud, I say to him, "Max don't wake the bear!" He ignores me and continues to woof, so I sit up and look out the window. I see these four teenage boys walking on the other side of the street. Suddenly two of them run to the neighbors house three doors down, and open up their min van and get in. I knew they didn't belong there. Then the other two come to MY house, and start trying to open my husbands truck, which is unlocked of course, because well, we live in a small town and don't think about it much. Now my husbands truck is a work vehicle, it's filled with all kinds of tools, a coffee holder full of toonies and loonies and apparently last night there was a $500 camera in the truck. Without thinking I yell out my upstairs window, "HEY YOU GET OUT OF MY TRUCK!" So the kids freak out, looking around for the voice that came from the sky, and run like hell. The kids in my neighbors vehicle also run like hell. At this point I'm super excited, Max and I saved the night! I called the police to let them know what happened, and I was so proud of my puppy!
Of course this morning he kind of ruined my proud high just a little bit, because I got up and he had chewed up a flip flop. Oh well, it wasn't mine, it was my husbands.
My super hero dog!

Jen lol the voice out of the sky is great! Did the bird fall out of the nest? I know those mamma birds can be pretty protective.
I hope they catch them too Cheryl, I feel like a lot of times petty stuff like that can escalate. That is pretty interesting about the poodles. I guess I've never thought of them much as watchdogs, when they have their "poodle" cuts they just look to me like pampered babies, even though I read that cut was actually originally for hunting.
Aww I'm glad those boys didn't hurt the birds, I wonder why they nest on the ground, what about the cats. :(
Haha Ro that is a nice way to put it for sure. I just don't understand what parent lets their kids be out at that time of the night. My youngest daughter is 18 and still has to be in by 11! I wanted to put a red cape on him, but he's in the naked doodle club now so it was a no go.
Yay, Max! He is most definitely a super hero!
I think so Stephanie but I am pretty biased!
Well we all agree so that makes your biased view justified!
You have to wonder how they have survived Jen, but I guess they manage. :)
Well I know Max agrees that he is a super hero Stephanie :D
Good job Max!
That's a fantastic story! I didn't know that Doodles were good watch dogs. :) I'm learning so much about them.
Oh wow....good work Max!
