Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Spring is here and we are having lots of fun at the park. However every time we go out I get the same response from the parks other visitors,
"What a beautiful dog. Is he a purebred Golden Retriever?"
I'm not sure why but sometimes I'm tempted to say, "Yes. Yes he is."
Maybe because its easier than the explanation.
This is Loki at just over five months. The only Poodle so far is some curly hair behind his ears and on the back of his legs.

First off, let me just say that Loki is a beautiful pup, poodless or not! We have a similar puppy that people assume is also golden. I have only had positive responses though. I can't imagine someone saying anything like having a doodle was a waste of money. I am afraid I would not be able to keep my mouth shut!
We get comments like that too, but most think Luna is a duck tolling retriever or a golden retriever puppy (because of her size, she's a mini). I just say "nope, she is half mini poodle!" and people are intrigued about how she doesn't show her poodle side. I tell them she looks quite poodly when wet, she gets quite curly ;) We haven't had any negative reactions, just surprised ones when they learn she is half poodle.
Loki is truly a wonderful dog. He is ever so patient and loving with my kids. My 2 year old abuses him relentlessly and he takes it like a champ. He is wonderful with other dogs and people and is quite protective of his family at the same time. He was certainly not a waste of money.
I am hoping he will doodle out though. Like I said he does seem to have more and more curly hair around his ears, legs and most recently his toes. Also his coat is getting more wavy. No facial trimmings yet. He will be six months next week. Did anyone else's doodle have a transformation that started with these areas?
Here is the best picture I could get of the curls. He apparently doesn't like to pose for a picture when your pulling on his ear or leg. Weird hey? ;)
That looks quite a bit like Luna's ears. Under her ears and her neck ruff are her curliest parts.
