Can my puppy have bully sticks?

My puppy is 17 weeks.  Is he at an age where he can eat bully sticks?  And if not, at what age would we be able to give him one?  He is 25 pounds and growing fast, predicted to be about 45-50 pounds.  What size would you recommend 6 inch or 12 inch?

Hugo loves his antler, but he needs more food based chews, he is VERY food motivated!

Food motivation is great for training, but for that, you use treats. Chew objects are given more to occupy and entertain a dog (and satisfy the urge to chew, especially in puppies) than for nourishment. What makes a chew last longer is the fact that it isn't easily consumed. :)
