Hi, I'm wondering what most of you use for flea and tick medication. Our dogs will be in and out of the water all summer, so I'm wondering what will be the most effective. I'm in canada. Thanks for any advice.

I just read these articles. I'll have to see where I can buy some rose geranium oil. It would be worth trying.
Every year I've found ticks on my dogs. It's always been a concern for me. I'm assuming that advantix is ineffective once they've gone swimming? I don't know if the natural products work. I know I was told to get dry ice and set it on a log that is covered with a layer of Vaseline and to leave it out overnight. Apparently, the ticks will be drawn to it and it will clear your cottage lot of ticks. Not sure if I believe this or not. Plus, it's not like I have dry ice lying around. Haha.

We use Revolution (combo flea, tick and heartworm) that you put on the back of their neck once a month.  I have never seen a tick on Gavin, but we are not in a tick heavy area (that I know of).

We use Revolution too. I am in Muskoka and we have ticks here.
If they go swimming, do I need to reapply the revolution? If I do, then it wouldn't work for me since they will be in the water daily. Thanks.

Hi Karen, you only apply the Revolution once per month.  It is absorbed through the skin and into the bloodstream.  It does not wash off, but they advise keeping your dog out of the water for a couple hours after application.

Thanks for the responses. The EO is interesting and I like that it's not a chemical. I didn't know revolution treated ticks as well. I'll have to look into that. You can only buy it from the vet here. Gets a little expensive, but you do what you have to do. We were to the cottage this weekend and hubby had a tick, so I'd better do something soon. Dogs had a blast and were in and out of the water. However, they didn't stay on our property, so I'm going to have to figure something out for that. I hate to keep them penned up.
Look at the Petsafe Wireless Boundary Fence - will allow dogs to run free, even swim within the circular boundary that you set.
Thanks. I just looked it up. I love that. I didn't even know they existed. Can they really swim with the collar? It's that waterproof?
Just bought this. Thanks for the suggestion.
