Took Leia to the vet today for her second round of puppy shots. No reactions after her last set at 9 weeks. This was her 12 week visit... the vet did add one additional component to the vaccine this time to cover her from Leptospirosis from raccoons and other common "backyard wildlife" in our area. This time, she is very lethargic. She didn't want to go outside, it took us coaxing her down the stairs with a pinecone (her favorite outdoor toy) to get her to go potty, and when she came in, she just sat on the rug and wouldn't move :( I'm guessing she is sore, but she is acting so strange. She didn't react this way after her 9 week shots. Any ideas?

I would call my Vet and ask if this change in activity level could be a reaction to her shots? Reactions can be serious so a call to your Vet is not being over protective. Hopefully it is nothing!
I'd call the vet and ask them. It may be nothing but they should at least have it noted in her records. Cassie gets her next round on the 23rd and we're keeping our fingers crossed.
There have been posts about this issue. The recommendation has been not to combine the Lepto vaccine with other shots. That's what I did and had no bad reaction. I would definitely alert your vet. They may have a plan for this. I have seen others instructed to give an antihistamine before taking the shot.

Yes, that vaccine is the most toxic.  You can google it and read about it.  My vet gives it in 2 separate doses.  I had an epileptic golden retriever before this and the online group of owner's of epileptics had a lot to say about vaccines; the leptospirosis in particular.  I agree with the others.  Contact your vet or even another vet if you're not satisfied with your vets response.

Watch for red eyes and facial swelling. Josie all of a sudden had an allergic reaction to the boretella her second year. She was rubbing her face on anything she could, her eyes turned beet red and her poor little face blew up. We took her right back and they gave her a few shots to counteract the swelling. Now they won't do the bordetello without keeping her overnight!
We were very lucky she was the last appointment of the day but they waited for us to drive all the way back then watched her for another hour.

Thank you for all of your advice! I did call the vet... she was more concerned about Leia showing pain than an allergic reaction. We have had no vomitting, diarrhea or facial swelling or itching. However, if I try to pick her up, since she is hesitant on stairs, she will cry. The vet gave us some anti-inflammatory meds for her, and if she is still in pain or very lethargic tomorrow, we will take her back in for a full exam.

Glad to hear the Vet was made aware....gentle ((hugs)) to Leia and that she feels much better by tomorrow.

PS...could you get us posted?  Interested in hearing the outcome.
