The first question is to be sure it's an allergy and then find out what Bella is allergic to. The treatment for a contact allergy would be quite different than for an inhalant allergy or an allergy to fleas etc.

No, it's not nice at all. Here is some information about allergies in dog and what you can do for them: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/healthandmedicalissues/forum/topi...

We went the vets this morning, we've a wash, cream and tablets...

It started out as a hot spot on her cheak which we thought was just an in grown whisker... Now it's the whole of the left side of her face from ear to throat.

It sounds like an infection rather than an allergy perhaps. What kind of tablets? Antibiotics? What did the vet call the condition?

Vet says it's an allergy, the tablets are steroids to reduce the redness.... No antibiotics as yet...

Whats the thoughts on antihistamines ?

Antihistamines can help if the allergy is not too severe. People here use Claritin, I use Allegra for Calla. I don't know the brand names in the UK but you can find references to dosages if you search DK.

Allegra is Fexofenadine and is prescription only in the UK. Lorat is Loratadine and is available over the counter.

There you go. Thanks.
