Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
One more question, I posted this in the red/apricot group but thought I might post it here as well.
My once super red doodle is fade to a almost blonde color. The tips of his fur on red where his fur has grown out.
This being said, when I brush him I notice that he has red roots. Is this the color he'll be? Should I shave him to get him red again or will nature take it's course and naturally turn him back red?
I have attached pics for clarification:
His color with the red tips from his puppy days almost grown out.
Do you think I'll get my red doodle back?
When do they start getting curly or when will I know what kind of coat he gets?
Next a pic of his roots :

Thank you sooooo much for sharing this!! It gives me hope that he'll turn red again once I get him groomed or his puppy fuzz grows out. George has a gorgeous coat, I hope Finn turns out half as pretty :)
Again, thanks for these photo's, I can't wait to get him groomed!!
I replied in the other one, but just for future reference to others if they search since you posted it twice, here is my response. Pictures for reference are included in the other discussion you posted.
Ragley had similar coat coloring (though she was never as light as the pictures make your boy look) with the darker roots fading out to lighter red at the tips. After clipping her last month, she definitely is looking a good bit darker than she did. Not sure whether this color will stick or not, but we shall see! I love my red doodle, but she could turn blue and I wouldn't care! You won't "know" what type of coat he has for a while still. Ragley is 9 months old and her coat is still changing. It probably didn't really start to make really noticeable changes until she was 7.5-8 months old.
Thanks for your patience with the newbie :)
Wow, doodles are so full of surprises, inside as well as out.
I completely agree, i'm so in love with him, he could be hairless and it wouldn't trade him for the moon and stars.
Thanks for giving me to look forward to , he's getting his first puppy trim today , I can't wait to see what his coat will look like, right now it's kind of frizzy ..
Tara had something similar happen with her puppy coat. Her breeder called it a "fading red" color. The roots were dark and then got lighter as it grew out.
Before first puppy cut 8mos. You can kind of see where her roots are darker.
After first puppy cut. The color difference is partly due to the camera and wasn't quite this dramatic in real life but there was a noticeable difference.
Her adult coat though is totally different and pretty much a solid dark apricot color. The roots and grow out are the same unless she spends a lot of time in the sun and wind then it lightens up a bit.
Oh my goodness , that looks like a different coat completely! Thank you so much, I think I'll end up with my red doodle again!!
I'v heard of them fading when their red or apricot, but haven't read anything about red roots, good to know they'll grow out
Your little girl is a heart breaker I can tell ;)
