Running / Mini Labradoodle Growth Plates?

At what age do mini (20-25lb) Labradoodles growth plates set? 

I want to run with our pup (currently 5mo) old but read so many conflicting things. I have heard that for smaller breeds (like the minis) starting (slooooowly) at 9mo is fine (bigger dogs at 12-18mo.) However our vet said even 6mo would be fine - though I feel like he hemmed and hawed his way to that answer so I'm a little unsure... 

Anyone know any more scientifically what a safe age to start running with a mini labradoodle would be? I don't want to risk damage/pain to him in later life, but he loves to run and I think he would really enjoy it as soon as we are ready! 

Has anyone ever x-rayed their dog to see if it's safe to start??

I definitely wouldn't run before a year, but I think I'll wait till 18 months Since there is conflicting information out there (I've seen it also).
Why take a chance is how I feel about it.

I started running with my mini doodle when she was a little over a year. Please remember when you start running with your dog that you need to build up their endurance just like you built up yours. Dogs get sore too especially when you over do. Please keep a close eye on their paws or their pads. I have stopped owners while they were running because their dog's pads were bleeding and they were unaware! Remember you can handle the heat better than your dog! Good luck! Love Linda's answer. I would only add: most dogs/ pups, do NOT know when to stop...so don't gauge your running sessions on him showing/telling you when he has had enough. Building up time is key. And yes, close eye on bloody/ sore pads!

We asked our vet about hip x-rays. He said he's only ever done it in breeding dogs, but that either way we couldn't do it with any definitive answer until 2 years or older.

I am waiting until 1.5-2 years with my standard Goldendoodle. Not worth the risk of starting earlier, in my opinion.
