Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
California in general is in dire need for volunteers to foster doodles. Southern CA has urgent need for two new fosters right now - please fill out an application with the DRC if you might be interested. You can use this link: http://doodlerescue.org/forum/topics/so-ca-urgent-need-for-2-new-fo...
Don't say you couldn't give up the foster - trust me, you will be sad but feel so GREAT for helping SAVE that dog's life. Most of the dogs we rescue are not in safe places and their time is limited. We are so thankful to reputable rescues and their volunteers or we would not have Clancy or Junior in our lives.
Skip and I call shelters to inquire about dogs or physically visit shelters to see a dog that might come into the DRC program. Just think how heartbroken we get after actually seeing a doodle and having to leave it to its fate because there isn't anyone to foster the dog, if we did pull it from the shelter. You thinking you couldn't relinquish a foster is nothing compared to how we feel when we leave a perfectly good dog in a depressing, scary place to most likely die. Some shelters try really hard to give the dogs some attention and minimal care, and cooperate with rescues and private adopters, but we find that often no one cares what happens to the dogs. Some of these workers actually seem to thwart any actions to retrieve a dog from them as long as they get their paycheck.
And I realize that fostering isn't for everyone for lots of reasons, but please consider whether you can foster and save a dog's life. If you have questions about fostering, ask. Thanks so much.
Look at these guys and tell me your heart doesn't break thinking what might have happened to them if it wasn't for rescue.

Thanks for posting this, Nancy.

Thanks, Karen!
Thanks, F, but I do nothing really. I'm just a cheerleader. The people who are actually saving the dogs' lives by pulling them out of the shelters and fostering them are the real heroes, Nancy & her DH among them.
I don't make the hard decisions, but feel good about what I do and would like others to get that feeling also.
I'm available in this tri-county area (Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz) but I think I would know if there are doodles in the shelters here. Every time I have gone to check one of the shelters, the dogs are gone.
These two right now are down her, Lynda, which is why you haven't heard about them.
i wish i could. I really breaks my heart every time DRC posts that they need fosters in so cal i can't seem to do anything….due to our Ben and our upcoming baby due in Oct. Perhaps in a couple of more years if Ben can get over his anxieties and fears and we are a more stable family.
I truly understand, Joanna. One of my dogs might have trouble with a foster due to his anxiety. My husband and I are gone a lot because we are retired so I try to help by pulling dogs and transporting them when needed which helps the foster out a lot.
I really wish I could foster...too much between work, family and taking care of my own two furry friends. Please foster if you can!!!!!!!
Allyson, it's amazing you can do what you're already doing! I know SAHMs who can't manage their kids and their dogs anywhere near as well as you do it with a full-time job besides.
When you can foster, you will. No doubt in my mind about that.
This discussion was NOT meant to embarrass or to shame anyone but to get someone to consider whether they might be able to make fostering a thing they could do to help dogs.
