Last question before I pick up Gumbo

Ok I know most of you said no food when I pick Gumbo up at airport tomorrow, bc it might make him car sick on ride home. Does the same apply for water? Should I bring a small dish and pour him some fresh water?  He is getting his last food/water tonight but nothing tomorrow. I pick him up at 3:30 pm. That means when he finally gets to me he hasn't had anything for 17 hours!  I understand food, but not giving him water just seems inhumane. The ride home is one hour. Could drinking water make him sick also? DK thanks in advance for your help. I swear, this will be my last question! (for tonight) haha!  Getting excited!!

Well, when my Danes flew (with Continental), they were required to have a water dish attached to the door of their kennel.  During their layover the staff put water in there (I know because some spilled in the kennel).  I think I remember you saying that Gumbo has a layover?  Regardless, I'd bring some water along that you can give him before the ride home.  Mine were both very thirsty when I picked them up.  Good luck!  Not too much longer!! :)

I just wrote you a reply and it disappeared!! Oh well...... I'm hoping the extra $75 I paid United for a "comfort stop" during layover will include water, however they never mentioned it? They said they walk the dog to stretch its legs. Nothing about water.? Hmm....I wonder?  Do you think by him gulping it down to fast or too much will make him throw up in the car ride home? I don't think water will hurt- I definitely vote bring water. I would pack a few towels for the car anyway and, as nasty as it may seem, water vomit isn't really that bad haha HAVE FUN!

Did you happen to ask United if that comfort stop included them giving a little water? Just curious if that is part of the package.

Linda, I didn't ask them but when I picked up Gumbo, there was a water dish attached to the wall of the crate. And it still had water in it!! You would think from it getting moved around so much, the water would have spilled out.... But nope!  So, I'm assuming it's included with the comfort stop.

I can tell you are only a wee bit excited. haha. I'm with ya- I feel like I am on pins and needles!  And the minutes are ticking by oh so very slowly.  Just 4 more hours.  I think I'm going to go to the mall for a distraction.  I've already packed and re-packed her supply bag for the trip home twice...and we only have a 30 min drive. ;-)
