People giving up doodle pups on CL, so sad....

So sad that people are bringing doodles home and giving them up within 1 year or less. One example is yesterday, a golden doodle, 12 weeks old. How in the world do you bring home a precious doodle and want to give them up within days. It gets worse, I responded to the ad explaining what I have to offer a doodle and all the lovey dovey affection that would be given. I receive a very cold response back asking to meet up today. I replied back with my questions and questions that were suggested to me from kind doodle mommies on DoodleKisses. I asked how much he was asking about the re-homing fee too. He said, I just paid 2400 for her and expect to get at least 1900-2000. No shots...no check ups yet. Has what he thinks is an ear infection and he is treating her with over the counter meds. I could not believe this. When I asked who he purchased the dog from, he relied back...do you want the dog or not. So sad...how do people bring a sweet doodle in their home and give them up so quickly? I cherished everyday I had with Bindi and would had given anything to save her.

I needed to get this off my chest as there were two other doodles this weekend in the Va, Md..DC area on CL with doodles under a year. SO SAD...

That is really sad. It is unfortunate how irresponsible some people can be.

I would encourage them to talk to the breeder and hopefully, something positive can come of the situation. It breaks my heart when I see dogs/puppies on CL.

Agree....because it's not just doodles, but other dogs too.  It saddens you to think about how many people have no heart for dogs.  If they only knew what a dog brings to your life.  A little....BIG thing called unconditional love.

That's what breaks my heart, fearing what will happen to this doodle when I flag.  However, I looked up the rules when posting pups and dogs on CL.  Clearly it states re-homing only, no sales....150 is the cap for re-homing as well.  So the unscrupulous people doing this know what they shouldn't be doing.

I agree. A sorry situation for the pup and so hard for you too. But don't give up.  You have so much love to give some lucky doodle.

I don't know... It seems a bit like this guy is trying to make a profit. He paid $2400? What if he paid $1200 and is now asking $2000? I'm a skeptic, for sure. Especially when he is replying with "do you want the dog or not"..

Yes, he was very defensive and rude.  I hope that his ad disappeared because enough people flagged along with me/

People are idiots and I never understand why these selfish individuals get a dog in the first place. If he paid that much for his dog, he probably got it from a breeder and there is probably a clause in that contract that the dog should be returned there first. More than likely, he did not pay that much and is trying to make a quick buck off of some poor puppy. I hope Karma bites him in the a$$.

Sadly I agree with both Kris and Laurie - joining the ranks of the skeptics.  Just thinking about this --and what a little "cottage industry" it's turning out to be.  Who pays $2400 for a pup, brings it home, and doesn't take it to the vet? More likely, he paid $800-$900 --the going rate I see on the internet --and is looking to turn a 100%+ profit at a sweet pup's expense.

Pass on it.  Anybody who wants to rehome their puppy should give it to the DRC or another organization that specializes in rehoming and rescuing dogs.  It is his fault that he spent $2400 dollars for a dog that he cannot be responsible for.
