That's a fairly common color for Dachshunds, they call it wild boar. Not sure what you'd call it in a doodle. What a cutie.
Ann Kendig's Sheba comes to mind with this coloring. She looks completely different now and I know she blogged about her colors before. Maybe you can find info on her page.
thanks for the awesome, detailed responses. i had noticed sheba when doing some early, early research - such a beautiful dog! my kind of coloring too. i would love to see a just-born, early weeks photo of her too. i think thats when it's easiest to tell before the coat begins getting long.
but ultimately, i think you're right - this will be something that reveals itself over time. thanks again, very exciting!
I believe there is a "sable" gene that runs in poodles? Do you know the parent stock? I'd search sable doodles or poodles for pics.
It makes me think of brindle..which I always love.
me too, i am crazy about brindle coloring. nature & genetics at its finest.
Leave Ann Kendig a message. She is busy for a few weeks but I am positive she will return your message. She will show you what Sheba looked like as a pup.
Here is Sheba, who is no longer brown at all but 50 Shades of Gray :)

And here is her baby picture! I finally found one
SHEBA
Sheba is beautiful in full coat. Her mother looks a lot like this also.
Here is her first birthday. You can see how much color her coat change was.
So to sum it up, you will never know and this puppy will constantly change in colors :)
She might not even ever look like Sheba either. She is going to surprise you
