Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello doodle lovers,

I have a 6 mo. old australian labradoodle and while he has had some basic training, he is not yet where I'd like him to be.

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for a relatively local puppy bootcamp ( Live in San Ramon but could travel south)?

Thank you and enjoy those pooch smooches.

If he's only 6 months he can't have had that much training already.  If his obedience is not where you want it to be, what you both need is simply more advanced training.  In other words if you did basic puppy kindergarten then move on to 'Beginner's' obedience.  If you've done "Beginner's" obedience then move on to Intermediate...then Advanced.  Or whatever the titles are of the local training school.  Because realistically NO puppy is where they should be at 6 months.  That's about the time that REAL training begins.  Find a training class that actually shows you how to deal with real world distractions.  Sorry I'm not near you and can't advise as to where to go.  Check local obedience clubs and ask your vet for referrals too.

Excellent advice! At 6 months your puppy only has a foundation of what he will need to build upon.

Another way to bond while training your pup is participating in a dog sport. Local training facilities should have resources or ideas to help you and your puppy continue both bonding and obedience.

I really feel that the majority of dog training is training the human how to get the best results with their dog. I don't even like the sound of Puppy Bootcamp, because it is the bond that forms between you and your dog that makes training work. Just my opinion, but I think Adina is right...it would be great if both of you could enroll in the next level of classes. Good luck!

I came across some puppy training videos a few months ago that were done at a "Puppy Bootcamp" in California.   Here is a link to the discussion I posted...http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/trainingmindsets/forum/topics/pup....  You can go to You Tube and see many videos of her "bootcamp" (Alyspuppybootcamp).  Although I have no first hand knowledge, I do like her training approach with puppies.  I have no idea where she is in relation to where you live, but it is one option.
