Do you guys recommend them for a 5 month old puppy?

What is your experience, and is there one that you recommend more than another?

Anyone wants to sell a used one? I'll pay for the shipping :)

Our Sadie is 2 and barks constantly at anything that goes past our house, also if she hears a noise. Sometimes it scares the heck out of you. Nothing worked to stop her. Finally I ordered a bark collar and it worked wonders! One time a little buzz is all it took! I don't even turn it on and she doesn't bark. It is so nice to finally have a dog that can be let outside and not bark her head off for no reason! Bliss, we are happy and so is she! I don't believe in abusing any living thing and one should not use a bark collar for that purpose.

Diane ~ IMO I do not believe a bark collar is appropriate for a 5 month old puppy.  Just saying!

Linda, I don't think a bark collar is appropriate for a 5 month old either! I should have stated only for older dogs when all else has failed.

We use an electronic bark collar on  our doodles, however they are full on adults.  I would try shaking a can with change in it and giving a firm No bark command and see if that helps.

Shaking the can sounds like a great idea- or you might try crating him when he barks too much. I put Cocoa in her crate when she barks too much. The barking is especially bad in the evening when people are taking their dogs on walks or if we have a lot of kids over and she gets overstimulated. I always have given her a treat when I crate her, and now if she's barking too much I say "crate" and she runs to her crate (and I give her a treat). She never barks in her crate, and it seems to break her barking cycle and I can release her after a few minutes and she's fine.

I agree that this is too young for a "bark collar" that provides shocks.  There is a discussion in the Training Group that provides some great insight along with a link to the Doggy Dan training site.

I never had to use a bark collar but I have a physical fence and a e-fence.  The instructions on my e-fence said to only use on a dog 6 months and older.  I waited until my doodles were like 9 months.
